Who on FR watches "House of Cards" Series
Vanity (Netflix) | 7-23-2014 | self

Posted on 07/23/2014 2:29:52 PM PDT by C. Edmund Wright

After being told by 3 or 4 associates whom I respect that I must watch it - and after putting it off for months - I finally dug in and power watched both seasons in past couple weeks.

I was astounded, on so many fronts. This is must see TV for political junkies. I mean, anyone might like it, but the politically involved will find it fascinting, and teachable, illustrative…..

Anyone else

It is a remake of a UK show.

I watched all of season 1 and 1/2 of season 2. Then it got politically correct (re: Spacey’s townhouse bombing).

Watched the first 2 seasons and it’s excellent. It portrays politicians as the scumbags that they are. Democrats worse than Republicans. Even the politicians that try and do things the right way don’t have a chance when going up against the establishment. It’s scary on how believable it is.

Good grief, Wright, I am already addicted to internet news and FR, while recording Baire, GRETA and Kelly nightly! Wha’da’ya’ think I’m made of- wires and wattage? LOL! %%:/

Actually, I don’t use Netflix and I take it that House of Cards is not available on cable? I like Spacey. Isn’t he conservative, btw? Thx, very much for the ping.

Maybe SAM’s has it in a DVD set. I’ll look for it.

Interesting fact for sure. Spent some time with Hughes Networks Systems in Orangeburg ... is that low country?

Not giving any spoilers but if this was the Clinton Administration I could see Hillary fitting into the final episode.

I found it interesting and aggravating.

To think that that is probably how things actually do function in Washington.

You scratch my back; I’ll scratch yours. You stab me and I will stab you. You get in my way to the next level of power and I will do everything I can to destroy you. Drinks at 5:00?

I watched it for a couple of episodes because my brotherl likes it, but found myself that I didn’t like any of the characters. They all just killed each other off in a kind of amoral soup.

It it is keeping faith and trust among kin and friends that holds a story together. The Viking series is every bit as brutal as the game of thrones but the main characters hold together in faith and trust. And that keeps that story in the land of the living.

Spacey is a Democrat, contributor and buddy of Clinton since before his first term.

here’s what I think on the sex, gay and otherwise: it is part of Washington.

Profanity, sex, murder all part of life. Doesn't mean I need to watch shows that contain them. This is why Hollywood is in the gutter...viewers are willing to follow them there.

his accent is pure low country SC….yet they have him from Gaffney, the upstate.

I have family in Spartanburg and imo, Spacey is pretty close to how they speak. All wrong on the politics, of course.

Really? I just got back from working in upstate with Lee Bright Campaign. The antagonist for Spacey in the Peach scene is on the money, but I don’t hear upstate in Frank Underwood at all.

Suit yourself. Your loss. I mean that sincerely. I think anyone interested in politics would benefit from at least watching the first three episodes (not nearly as much sex in them)

I sampled it and didn’t care for it.

My problem was that almost everybody wanders into Spacey’s traps with wide eyes and a smile. He finds it easy to successfully manipulate almost all of his targets. Things go his way, and when they don’t, they wind up going his way.

Narrative-wise, it’s amateur hour. You can’t have a couple of smart characters manipulate all the other characters in the show with an almost 100% accuracy. It just falls flat.
