Need Freepers Help: Where has Huckabee stepped in it?
Vanity | 8-21-14 | Self

Need some help remembering: where Mike Huckabee has demonstrated his establishment thinking and his lack of understanding of conservative issues (outside of the social issues)- and where he has bought into big government solutions.

I'm on a panel tomorrow about Huckabee in 2016 (I did not choose the topic) - and I need some memory jogging.

We’re a better country if we allow scholarships for illegals. (Aug 2009)

Some anti-immigration advocates are based on racism. (Sep 2007)

The Maurice Clemmons pardon, which led to the murders of 4 police officers is a good start. Huckabee’s lies and distortions about the nature of the clemency and his appearing on Comedy Central the night of of the funerals for the murdered cops tell me all I need to know about him.

I met him this last winter.

He has ballooned up again in his size.

There is no way he could get elected.

We cannot tolerate fat people on TV. Its just about the last place you can uniformly be disrespectful. As a former fatty, I am particularly sensitive to this.

Don’t even bother learning why he is not qualified. The only fat person allowed to be fat is Hillary.

While Mike Huckabee was gov he pushed helping the illegal aliens in his state..

he was and still is for AMNESTY..

In 2008 this was my only gripe with him..

Hes solidly pro-life etc..

He is good on social issues, but he is awful on economic and other issues of freedom, etc - and he will definitely try to get liberal populists votes with some of his rhetoric.

That’s all true, but I’d like more substantial stuff.

I remember in 08 he came out and ran against talk radio - accusing Rush and Hannity of just spouting off stuff “for the money.” It was really sickening.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/29/multiple-police-officers-_n_373119.html

“In 1989, Clemmons, then 17, was convicted in Little Rock for aggravated robbery. He was paroled in 2000 after then-Gov. Mike Huckabee commuted Clemmons’ 95-year prison sentence.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_DuMond

“The victim would later tell Governor Mike Huckabee, in a personal meeting at which she, her family, and the prosecuting attorney in the case pleaded with him to reverse his decision to release DuMond, “This is how close I was to Wayne DuMond. I will never forget his face. And now I don’t want you ever to forget my face.”[14]”

My favorite is from one of the 2008 debates. He was backed into a corner on his record of raising taxes as governor of AR. He steadfastly refused to admit he had raised taxes (a sin tax on tobacco products or something iirc) and instead responded, “I didn’t raise taxes. I raised hope!”

When he came to Chattanooga with Chuck Norris during the primary in 2008, I asked him about his stance on the illegal aliens...

He refused to answer me..

This (destroyed hard drives leaving governor's office) and "possible improprieties in a 2006 Huckabee decision to attract a Mexican consulate to Little Rock." I think he offered Mexico office space to hand out ID's to ILLEGAL. He charged $1.00 a year.

I have no personal knowledge that these charges are true. But they were "out there" years ago.

Great point, thank you. I know I always considered his staying in the race til the bitter end as “the Fox News audition period” or perhaps the “Oh yes, I’ll take the Veep spot” shamelessness…….

He endorsed Thad Cochan in the Mississippi senate race. That did it for me.

I've kept a few things on the Huckster ....

The direction Governor Huckabee would take us in … liberal economic policies … liberal foreign policies … taxpayer funded programs for illegals … that’s not the model of the Reagan coalition, that’s the model of the democratic party.

Joy Behar’s Favorite Republican

“Mika, I bet you never did this,” Huckabee went on, addressing Mika Brzezinski. “When I was in college, we used to take a popcorn popper, because that was the only thing they would let us use in the dorm, and we would fry squirrels in a popcorn popper in the dorm room.”

Huckabee: I don’t want to use the word “conspiracy”, but I just did …
Huckabee: I don’t want to use the word “Metamucil”, but I just did …
Huckabee: I don’t want to use this negative ad you see, but I just did …
Huckabee: I don’t want to use this cross behind me, but I just did …

I could go one but I just don’t want to …

He would be portrayed as an inept neophyte on foreign policy (Condi elaborates here. He would be portrayed as a slick phony who uses his Christianity for personal gain but doesn’t live it. Peggy Noonan aptly described this as “he's more James Carville than Jim Nabors”

Huckabee: Anybody with an IQ above Broccoli, knows I am a conservative

A plea from (an) Arkansas Christian conservative

Which candidate has the mental disorder?

TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MIKE HUCKABEE:

1. Soft-on-crime Governor who went on a pardon/commutation spree
2. Pro-instate-tuition for illegal aliens and other giveaways – poor record on immigration
3. Fiscal liberal Tax-and-spender as Governor
4. Dissembled about his record when challenged (pardons, taxes, ethics)
5. Not a conservative, hurt conservatives in Arkansas
6. Ethics issues, taking public money for private use
7. Flipflopper, on immigration, Cuba and other issues
8. An incompetent Jimmy Carteresque boob on foreign policy
9. Is a nanny-stater supporter of smoking bans and enviro-wacko CO2 caps
10. Fired the prosecutor who filed animal cruelty charges against his son David

Let me know if you want pictures. There's a treasure trove of those too.

I agree. My comment doesn’t matter when you are talking about him.

But, it is all that is going to matter if he runs.

Between Christie and Huckabee, the discourse about them will be crude, unfair, and fat related. Period.

I think he is a moderate, pragmatist. In that he will try to appease the middle of the road moderate fiscal conservative, moderate social republicans and moderate democrats. He would do well in the Northeast and West. He is much to socially liberal for the south.

Personally, I think we could do a lot worse. I like Newt myself, but he would never win.
