As I understand it, Congress can pass a bill countermanding any EO they don’t like, and it nullifies the EO, even without POTUS’ signature.

Can executive orders be overturned? Congress may attempt to overturn an executive order by passing legislation (a bill) that opposes the order. However, the President can veto that bill, and Congress would then need to override that veto to pass the bill. Also, the Supreme Court can declare an executive order to be unconstitutional.

One way to look at what the R’s just did was in terms of judo. The breadth and momentum of the overreach of liberals, and more importantly, THE LIBERAL PRESS was such that the country put its foot down. Climate change and teachers unions are the two megaliths of Washington State politics, and even they got hammered.

McConnell did a good job marshaling the party into not making dumb mistakes. That’s going to earn me some flames, but the evidence is abundant, especially in KANSAS. He got Palin and Cruz to show up, and that saved both Brownback and Roberts.

Obama is brash, and a malignant narcissist, but he isn’t smart, and he can be manipulated pretty readily by people that understand how that kind of psychology works.

I say let him do it. Each week a new, common sense bill hits the President’s desk. An UNPRECEDENTED amount of legislative activity should take place - all bills, one issue a piece and not more than 10 pages a piece.

EDUCATE AMERICANS IN WHAT HONEST, TRANSPARENT POLITICS IS ALL ABOUT.

Then go down to Mississippi and tell Boss Hogg that McDaniel is the heir apparent, and that Cochran is going to back him.

There are still possibly three more Senate seats (Alaska, NJ, and even Virginia) out there. We could have between 56 and 57 Senators. You only need 10 more for a veto override.

Find Democrats you can work with that want to keep their jobs and work with them on helping them keep their seats by giving them wins they can be proud of (Keystone, Medical Device Tax, Tax Overhauls, etc).

The one argument, and the only argument, you need with those folks is, “What did Reid, Pelosi, and Obama ever do for you? Work with us, take the V, keep your seat.”

The FIRST GUY you sell this to is Manchin of WV. “Don’t jump ship on the D’s. They need you. Let’s override some vetos on coal, Keystone, and some other stuff and we can put some spine back into your career.”

A carpetbagger nearly killed Shaheen too. Easy sell there.

The way you get to Murray and the other hag in WA state is through Boeing and Microsoft.

Get some issues on the President’s desk that will put labor unions back to work. TALK TO THE UNIONS. Reach out and give them a copy of the very short bill and say, “No downside here - just stay on the sideline.”

Tell McCain that if he so much as utters the word ‘immigration’, or any word close to it, like ‘imitate’, or ‘initiate’ or ‘denigration’, you’ll slam his hand in the door of his car.

And no more bushes that aren’t actually in office. I see Bush and I hear Clinton having tea and cookies in their kitchen somewhere.

Short bills, clear bills, clean bills, and many bills. OVERLOAD THE SYSTEM with good, common sense stuff.

I have to believe they can find 8 more senators interested in keeping their jobs in 2016. Just show them the list of bills that are going to pass in the first 20 days of the new Congress and ask them which side of those bills they want to be on.

If Obola wants to veto them, let him.

On the border fence. A clean bill that points out that it was part of deal on immigration that Reagan made that wasn’t fulfilled should do that.

Keep the Nuke option activated, and strip bills from idiots and off you go. Also, make them filibuster in person, until they die on the floor if you have to. Put some iron back in the rules.

“I think that the best way, if folks are serious about getting immigration reform done, is going ahead and passing a bill and getting it to my desk. And then the executive actions that I take go away. ...”

OK, Barry, here’s your bill:

Section 1: All individuals present within the borders of the United States without a valid visa are guilty of a Class 1 felony, and shall be immediately deported upon apprehension.

Section 2: Any state of subdivision thereof which fails to turn over individuals without valid visas to the United States government pursuant to Section 1 hereof, shall forfeit all federal matching funds for the next 2 fiscal years.

Section 3: The United States shall construct a physical barrier on it border with Mexico that will prevent the illegal entry of any individuals who lack a valid visa for entry to the United States.

Section 4: The Executive Branch shall have the authority to write regulations intended to carry out the specific intent of Sections 1-3, inclusive. Any department or agency which fails to do so within 60 days of the signing of this bill into law by the President, shall have its budget reduced by 1.00% for each calendar day thereafter, and the reduced budget for that department or agency at the time that said regulation is finally written shall be its baseline budget for all future budget years.

There you go, Barry. Now sign it.

I was thinking the same thing. The remaining Senate Dems have to see the writing on the wall and they be more likely to vote with the Republicans to override any vetoes.

Niiiiice!

Send one bill to the Presidents desk. A border closure bill. Very simple 1/2 page bill. Go on TV, hold a press conference and announce the bill. The President either signs it or vetoes it.

Next get out there and get Hillary’s opinion of the bill.

And that is our campaign commercial for the next two years.

Obama knows there are few real men in the Republican Senate that will challenge him.

He also knows that the majority of the GOPe want amnesty to they just don't want to go on record and vote for it.

When he does it they will fain outrage and make threats while they high-five each other in their offices. It gets the Chamber people off their backs and the checks keep coming in while they can avoid any responsibility for the outcome.

Fund a physical fence and make all other reforms contingent on COMPLETIONG of that fence.

Didn’t know that. You’d think a simple majority would suffice in a case where the issue is actually POTUS conduct of executive duties.

the only reason we “need” immigration reform is because one political culture refuses to enforce the law they swore to enforce.

Begs the question:

Are you now suggesting those in the GOP, and in fact the leaders and their own chosen candidates within the GOP have not aided, abetted, pandered to and supported illegals and open borders for the past 35+ years?

I think the appropriate response from Congress to the neutered mirror hugger would be, “Nuts!”

"This is impeachment bait. If he can't be the prom queen (and he can't at this stage), he wants to be Carrie."

Fantastic analogy, and if Krauthammer is right, a foregone conclusion.

On the other hand assume 0bama is not completely suicidal, he knows he can't do this right away. He does, and a bill nullifying the EO would be immediately forthcoming with veto proof support.

Pass a new ‘Bill’ that simply says “We will vigorously enforce EXISTING immigration laws from now on and build the fence that we already allocated money for”

The Communist dictator needs to be stopped! McConnell isn’t the man for the job - one day after the elections he says what he won’t do. Why the hell did we bother to vote for politicians like that?

“Fund a physical fence and make all other reforms contingent on COMPLETIONG of that fence.”

In 2006 Congress authorized the building of a secure border fence requiring at least 2 layers of reinforced fencing. In 2007, Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison secured an amendment to the budget bill stating: “nothing in this paragraph shall require the Secretary of Homeland Security to install fencing, physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras, and sensors in a particular location along an international border of the United States, if the Secretary determines that the use or placement of such resources is not the most appropriate means to achieve and maintain operational control over the international border at such location.” This GOP sponsored amendment gave Homeland Security the discretion not to build a physical fence. It was passed by Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush. Only 36 miles of the 650 miles of fencing built since the 2006 legislation was passed are double layered.

More evidence that both parties are complicit in keeping the southern border from being secured with a physical barrier. Expect Boehner and McConnell to continue the same policy in 2015.

Here's an idea for day 1 of then new Congress:

Pass a joint resolution of both houses that says the following:

1. Immigration laws must be legislated, not imposed by the President. Our Constitution does not permit the President to make immigration law, it requires him to execute the laws of the land. An intentional refusal by the President to implement the existing laws is a violation of his oath of office and an impeachable offense.

2. The President's power to pardon crimes does not make an illegal alien a citizen or legal resident of the United States. Congress reserves the right to pass laws to deal with those in the country illegally, and the President's pardons will not prevent that.

3. It is cruel to those illegally in this country to make them think the President can make them legal residents of the US, because they remain subject to deportation, and do not have the rights of a legal resident. It is also conducive to civil disorder, as those pardoned will feel wronged when the US emerges from its slumber and resumes enforcing its own immigration laws. This resolution is intended to be a clear statement to such persons in this country illegally that if they do receive a pardon, we will wish them well and suggest they return to their countries of origin so that they don't commit additional illegal acts subsequent to their pardons. Bon voyage.

Dress it up in legislative mumbo jumbo and get both houses of Congress to pass it. If you get a significant number of Democrats to join in, to declare that the President should not try to impose an executive amnesty, it will give him pause, and may form the basis for either a repeal or an impeachment. If you don't get Democrats to join in such a simple statement of how our legislative system works in America, then it should be used as a big hammer against those Dems and against the entire rat party in 2016.

I am pissing in the wind, I know. B* McConnell will work hard to pass his own amnesty bill because he fears that Obama will do it himself, and B*'s overriding concern is protecting the status of the Senate. It is like when Roberts went along with Obamacare to protect the SC from Obama. But maybe someone can force a spine into the Republicans. We will see.
