Obviously you missed it the first time. Michael Brown had identified with cause of the Palestinian people. For him, Officer Wilson became a symbol of Israel the Oppressor. Subtler perhaps, but equally obvious, the shopkeeper, although not Jewish, reminded him of the feared Jewish commercial acumen that been keepin' his people down and besides, the goods in his store are always subject to instant ghetto dhimmi tax, collectable at any time.
Michael was a martyr on Jihad. Now, since the infidel didn't die, the theological issue becomes the 72-Virgin-Deal. Does he get all 72? Does he get none, since the mission failed? Compromise is called for. I used to talk about this is my police science class back in the 70’s. That is no such thing as a major “spontaneous demonstration” of this size.
It is always planned, tactics works out and prepared for (Molotov cocktails, acid bottles, paint bombs, smoke bombs, anti-dog chemicals, radio communications system, spotters, directors, voice agitators, printed signs, etc).
