Storm Shows Americans Are Totally Unprepared:
SHTF Plan ^ | 12/12/14 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 12/12/2014 6:21:22 PM PST by Kartographer

Georgia Virgili was one of the hundreds of thousands in the Bay Area who lost most of the conveniences of modern life.

“I didn’t have power,” Virgili said. “I couldn’t get my car out of the garage, I have no food, I have no cash, so I’m trying to forage for something.” (CBS)

First thing he didn’t have was the brains God gave him, or he would have been prepared for a little ole storm. Must be one of those live in the moment types.

I was there for that 1982 flood. Downtown San Anselmo was a white water river. I was trying to get from Mill Valley to Forest Knolls that morning but my car was overcome with water on SFD at Red Hill. Road was closed between Fairfax and San Anselmo. I and my 12 year old son managed to get home to Mill Valley by hitchhiking and walking. An unreal day I’ll never forget.

Any one with a hot water tank or a toilet(water in the tank) has water in the house. Take a sleeping bag or lots of layers of clothes and blankets or a tent into the bathroom and shut the door. Light a candle or two. You’d be surprised what you can do to keep from freezing.

Only FEMA has the authority to pull the red handle.

Wow, it rained.

Far be it for me to defend Bay Area left-wing nutbags, but I've discovered that people in other parts of the country have different definitions of "rain". In California (at least in the northern part where I'm from) when we get rain, it often comes down in torrential downpours of the flash flood variety. Driving down the freeway at 75mph when suddenly the rain is so hard that your wipers might as well not even be on is interesting. If this storm was bad enough for them to be making a big deal out of it (I'm not in Cali at the moment) then it was probably pretty impressive.

That said, part of me still wants the Bay Area to wash out to sea.

US too Eric! Moved here from Dallas area. Would be much easier to be self sustained. Cast iron stove with lots of wood and a pump on our well that we can bypass and draw by hand. Two ponds full of Bass and whatever we could find on the land, deer, rabbits and turkeys. Then there are the chickens and eggs. Not easy but doable.

I have been easing my granddaughters (10 yr old twins, 7 yr old and 4 yr old) into prepping. They have bug out bags by their beds and they know what I have in way of prepping.

I’ve also been teaching them to get along without electricity. Difficult, since these are electronic age kids. Working on it.

Has anyone here read “The Stand?” In one part, it describes how this guy Larry and woman Rita leave NY and Rita was the most unable to adapt to the new world post-plague. She ends up committing suicide, but before she offs herself, Larry has to essentially guide this complete ditz of a woman through NY and puts up with her complete lack of common sense, one of the idiotic moves the woman makes is to wear fashionable sandals on what is supposed to be a literal hike through a city loaded with dead people. Instead of wearing sneakers.

This ditz in the article sounds like a completely worthless type that wants a survivalist to hold her hands and face the ugliness for her and let her close her eyes and avoid reality.

I think it’s the eternally good weather, it fails to develop the instincts that people who live through winters develop.

Prepping is living. AR, 100 rounds, water, food... Everything else will have to fought for. (If you have more ammo? Fine. But if you have to fire more than 100 rounds your dead anyway)

I have a mixture of rounds for my weapons - would not want to rely on a mere 100 rounds because one must be prepared for several encounters and a period of unrest if ever SHTF.

I can equip a squad of infantry with battle rifles.

Do you have 10000 rounds for each of your spare rifles?

If you can’t replace their barrels, they’ll be smooth-bores before you go through their allotted 10000 rounds.

You disconnect the electric door trolly from the door by pulling that cable cord then you grasp the handle on the door and lift up........At least it works for me.

I’d have to agree with you on that, a low profile is the key to survival.
