Gov. Walker backs citizenship pathway for illegal immigrants [July 03, 2013]

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) says he supports a pathway to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally as part of an overhaul of the nation's immigration system.

"If people want to come here and work hard and benefit, I don't care whether they come from Mexico or Ireland or Germany or Canada or South Africa or anywhere else," Walker said Tuesday during an interview with the Daily Herald Media Editorial Board of Wisconsin. "I want them here."

Walker was then asked about the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the country illegally. The editorial board asked if he could "envision a world where with the right penalties and waiting periods and meet the requirements where those people could get citizenship?"

"Sure," Walker responded. "I mean I think it makes sense." Walker's comments came roughly a week after the Democratic-controlled Senate passed a bipartisan immigration reform proposal that includes a pathway to citizenship.

The proposal strengthens border security along the U.S.-Mexico border by doubling the length of fencing across the border and also doubling the number of border patrol agents. Walker said he had not fully reviewed the Senate bill and has not taken a position on the legislation.

Walker's comments separate him from some conservative House lawmakers who have said they cannot support the Senate immigration reform bill because it includes a pathway to citizenship.

Gov Walker loves the smell of camel nose, apparently ... either that or his nose is already cut off to spite his face ... and he CAN'T smell

Obviously has no ears to hear, neither.

Buh bye, Scotty-dog

I do love my Governor for everything he has done for my state Wisconsin. But this issue is a chink in his armor. And it won't go unnoticed. Illegal is illegal. Send them home and make them do it right, Governor. If you can't abide by the law, then you have no business in the Executive Office enforcing its execution.

What a shame! I had such high hopes for the man after he showed how Conservative principles could win, even in a blue state... now this.

How could he be so obtuse as to not support legal immigration while condemning line-jumping illegal immigration?

Well, this will make the pro-Walker crowd around here sad.

Last time I pointed out that he has a history of being an amnesty pimp, I was told in no uncertain terms that he had changed his views, and what he had said in the past was irrelevant.

Surrrrrrrre.....

Pro-Amnesty. Citizenship Path.

Face it folks. When it comes down to things, ALL of our choices - not just RINO, but conservatives too - will be “pro-amnesty”.

Including Ted Cruz.

To me this is a serious problem. And this is a guy who voted for him as County Exec, and Governor 3 times.

He doesn’t grasp the illegal immigration problem. And if he truly does he’s lying about it.

Merely “wanting to work here” shouldn’t just give someone citizenship. Especially when they don’t want to assimilate, and won’t give up their former country citizenship, and really only care about sending money out of America to their relatives in their home country.

Thanks for posting this. We really need an anti-amnesty candidate—and don’t have any at this point.

I wonder why Mary Fallin in OK hasn’t considered running.

If I wanted to live in Mexico, I would have moved there long ago. However, when we allow people to immigrate, we must be careful about the quality of the people we put on a path to citizenship. The enemies of liberty want citizens who are low intelligence and who are disposed to be malleable and pliable to be supporters of liberal programs and to become dependent upon Big Government “benefits”.

We are committing cultural suicide by allowing people in to our country in such quantities that they don’t have to assimilate.

However we decide to deal with people who came here in violation of our long-standing laws, we must NEVER grant such people the right to vote. This is for two reasons: to thwart those politicians who sought to import one-party voters, and second as a matter of principle. The law must mean something because it is for good reason. Otherwise we soon won’t have a country worth living in, as people in parts of France are finding out.

I also back having a citizenship pathway for illegal immigrants - my pathway is for them to go back home, apply for legal entry to our country, and then apply for citizenship. As for Gov. Walker’s ideas - no, thank you. I will not vote for him in the primaries or in the general election. He may be good in some other areas, but Amnesty, the Second Amendment, and repealing Obamacare are non-negotiable absolutes.

And I speak as someone who has a son in law who is from Asia and who loves liberty and who will make a fine citizen when the day comes.

And you haven’t even touched on their demographic being majority welfare-takers at least three generations in...

And voting Democrat...

And going ahead of most Americans as affirmative-action beneficiaries...

And...

Unacceptable!

Do those things and illegal aliens will deport themselves and pay for the trip.

The article is from July 2013. Why does your post misleadingly indicate it is from today?

This is why I say he’s got the Chamber of Commerce position on illegals. And it’s dead wrong.

It is extremely damaging to the country.

And either he doesn’t see it, which is a great problem and shows he has a huge blind spot. Or otherwise he does see it, which is also a great problem for a much different reason.
