VANITY: Move to Seattle? Any young Conservatives in the city or state?
me ^ | 02/25/2015 | bushwon

My daughter is graduating this summer--she has a dear friend who lives in Seattle and has suggested my daughter might move out there. Daughter could move anywhere she can find job in her field.

My daughter is a conservative tho not a political junkie like her mom LOL. Her friend is probably a moderate, but not particularly political. I have a "moderate" republican friend who said Seattle is just growing by leaps and bounds and lots of young people are moving there.

Though I have no direct say in the matter as daughter is an adult and I have not been in Seattle except for the airport, I am not sure how I feel about the city Seattle or state Washington? From what I have read, most conservative liberty-lovers have left...but I have no first-hand information.

I would appreciate input in the event that my daughter asks for my opinion--eh she usually does.

Anyone have any thoughts on Seattle (preferably first-hand) to share?

I appreciate it. Thanks!

Live anywhere you want and where you can get a job ... if you’re having trouble getting a job ... or ... where you can get the best job, if you’ve got several offers.

The nice thing about that location of the country are the outdoors and the mountains, and being close to the ocean, too. Of course, the ocean is colder, that far north, but it’s still nice. There’s cross country skiing, downhill, mountain climbing, hiking, a good amount of bicycling and other activities. It’s fun riding the ferries, you can go over to the San Juan Islands, easily, or continue on over to Victoria, Canada.

Drive on up to Vancouver from Seattle, and ride on some of the biggest ferries in the world. You’re close to Oregon and there’s a lot to do there, too.

Take a ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. The sun sets, up there at around 11:30 PM to midnight in the summer ... :-) ...

There’s great skiing up in Vancouver, too. Be sure to see the rain forest in the Olympic Peninsula, don’t miss Mt. Rainier, and be sure to see the volcano ... Mt. St. Helen.

As long as your daughter is confirmed and settled in her political views, she won’t have any problems. She won’t change the state or some other people’s minds, but they are not going to beat her up or kill her ... :-) ...

Tell her to make her money, get rich (or at least a comfortable amount of money, and live her life well!

It is a beautiful city (well except all of the junkies in Pioneer Square). I was there 2 years ago and still miss it. Never ran out of stuff to do. I would totally live there or across Eliot Bay.

But it is super lib. And horribly expensive!

It’s not that bad ... the “reputation” is built up to be worse than it really is.

It’s a liberal city and I guarantee that her friend and your daughter will turn liberal after two years.

Thanks! Kind of what I am afraid of...tho daughter is pretty savvy.

Why should she turn liberal if she’s committed and confirmed in what she knows. I can live right in the middle of liberals, be the ONLY ONE, and I’m not going to be thinking different! ... :-) ...

If the corrosive leftism of political Seattle doesn’t get you first, the eternally morose overcast skies will leave you searching the weather forecast for “sun breaks.”

This is the standard description. Was hoping perhaps there might be a “rest of the story” to it, but it appears that if you are not leftist, you will feel out of place.

Portland is similar to Seattle, in what you describe, but neither “got to me” ... :-) ...

Every morning I would check to see if the animals were lining up two by two.

If they weren't I would go get a coffee and go in to work. :)

On the bright they have very good coffee there. But you do have to get a cover for your cup or it will be so diluted by the rain on your walk that it is undrinkable.

I live in the Tacoma area. It’s not a bad place but extremely liberal. I suggest she find a Christ centered church to attend, otherwise she’ll get caught up with the crowd.

I’m hoping to transfer to a Christian college up in Seattle next semester. I have family up there, but not being from Seattle (or even Washington) myself, I cannot say much about it. I imagine it’s full of nutcases, but most big cities are. I wish your daughter luck. :)

No, the USA and the rest of the world is scheduled for DESTRUCTION, during the Seven Year Tribulation. No country or city in the world will escape, not even the MOST CONSERVATIVE!

It’s coming soon!

I’m not prying, bushwon.. but could your daughter be interested in Seattle simply because she has a friend there? I would imagine moving to a new area for a job is frightening in a way. Moving to a new area and not knowing a soul is even more frightening. (perhaps this is a female trait vs a male trait.. don’t know for sure?) Either way, she sounds like she has a good head on her shoulder. Do you know the friend? Is he/she a good person that will watch out for her? If she moves to Seattle and doesn’t like it, she always has resume material for another job later. Good luck!

Whatever your daughters field, someplace in Texas has an opening.

She has a brother in Texarkana. He moved there for a job—a great job— he is very very grateful to have BTW.

I know nothing about Texarkana, but I have suggested she go visit him and look at job opportunities-—However, very sadly, I have to say the whole immigrant situation has raised red flags regarding Texas. Eh perhaps I need to do another vanity on Texarkana...

Good luck to her and hopefully she has a good conservative stance that those liberals in two years won’t affect her mind

Because she is not very political and being around liberals who are and watching their media for a couple of years could affect her.

Make sure to rent an apartment within stone’s throw of the Lenin statue.

Then throw stones at it.

My wife and I moved back to Alabama from her home in Seattle 9 years ago. It was the best thing we could have done. Says my wife. She lived in Seattle most of her life and could not wait to get out of that cess pool. It is the liberal and homo capital of the country, along with San Francisco. There are very, very, very few conservatives in the area. We lived in Bremerton which was across Puget Sound from Seattle. We rode the ferry to and from work every day. That cost us both over $1,200 each in ferry ticket money each year. Plus the cost of parking each month at the ferry terminal. Very expensive area to live in. If your daughter thinks she is going to a conservative area, wrong. 98% of Seattle is liberal, homo approving, Obama, Algore loving dimocrats. We are so happy that we finally got out of that dump. I refuse to go back to even visit. She still has family up there and has flown back to visit a couple of times, but not me. Once I left, I left. So, myself, I would fight my kid to keep them from living there or any other liberal hell hole.
