Exactly whose heritage does it celebrate?
Following the church shooting this week, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley offered powerful words of healing and said the “people of South Carolina need us to come together and be strong.”
But at the same time the state’s citizens are being urged to “come together,” the state continues to display a divisive symbol — the Confederate flag — outside the state Capitol.
Reacting to calls to remove it, Sen. Lindsey Graham said the flag “is part of who we are.”
His answer makes me wonder just who Graham means by “we.” Does he mean the white people of South Carolina? Does he mean the neo-Confederates of South Carolina? Surely he doesn’t mean the African Americans in his state whose ancestors were enslaved, tortured and murdered under the regime represented by that flag. Surely he doesn’t mean older African Americans who still recall the terrorism of Klansmen who adopted the flag as their standard during Jim Crow. Surely not.

The Confederacy was marred by slavery. The “Union” is marred by abortion.
The Confederate flag is a reminder of the natural right of secession. That it IS a natural right is one of the “self-evident truths” listed in the Declaration of Independence.
What needs to be stamped out is the “Pledge of Allegiance,” which denies the natural right of secession, asserting instead that “one nation” has been created, SO PERFECT that no one has the right to secede from it, ever, until the end of time.
So successful has been the propaganda for this evil idea, that no state has even discussed seceding from the Union, despite being commanded by the central government to allow the killing of millions of innocent people by their own families.

I thought I made it clear: Bullet points: 1) The SPLC director, Cohen wants us all to remove the Confederate flag anywhere and everywhere its flown because he somehow thinks it really has anything to do with the killings in Charleston, 2) Blacks associate the Confederate flag with the KKK, 3) Cohen has facial features that look as though he may have black heritage, ergo probably his motiivation as it relates to # 2.
Is that simple enough for you?

I think you meant to say integration came about and segregation ended. At any rate I entered the Navy straight from high school in 1962 and it was fully integrated at that time. I couldn’t say exactly when segregation ended in the Navy.

I'm just guessing but I'd say the change came sometime under Ike. The ships weren't segregated as to a black crew ship or a white crew ship that wasn't what I was trying to say. I don't think that was true even for WW1. The available Ratings to black sailors were limited. IIRC Ratings had also been limited for P.I. sailors as well.

Not to mention that the flag used in the picture at the very top of this post was the Confederate Naval Jack, not the battle flag or flag of state.

Since Roy Barnes the POS Democrat Gov got some BS flag approved in a midnight legislative session. We got rid of Roy right after that. He went down hard. Harry Reid could have gotten elected GA gov that year. The yard signs just said anybody but Barnes.

I have a front licence plate that has an American Flag and a Confederate Battle Flag together. I’ m thinking of removing it from my truck and hanging it up in my garage.
I’m concerned that I am making myself and family a target of some wacho.
This is a sad day for our Country.
My family has ancestors who fought on both sides. One of my sons is named for a distant relative who was a Confederate soldier and was killed in the war.
I think the battle flag should be shown in honor and respect (i.e. at monuments, cemeteries, parades, reenactments, etc.)
But I don’t like the Confederate battle flag used as the international symbol for redneck. I don’t like seeing either the battle flag or US flag print on shorts, bandanas around a dog’s neck, flip-flops, paper plates or saddle blankets, or any other use where it’s going to be stepped on, messed up or thrown away.
(Maybe it would be OK to use a Union Jack print in those situations ;-)

While Bush is NOT a conservative, I’m always surprised at the idiotic stances and excuses people make to fly the disgraced, defeated, and offensive confederate flag. Bush, (like Romney and others speaking on the topic), are right, it, like the Nazi flag, belongs in a museum. Go ahead, flame me.
Aside from the reality that there is no quicker way to lose an election than by flying or defending the Confederate flag, who’s the last person to do so, David Duke? Not nice company to keep.
