Star Trek.

Oh, and Gunsmoke hasn’t been the longest-running TV series in years. Let’s just say it was the longest-running scripted TV series of the 3-network era. Simpsons has been running since 1989.

I remember watching the news one night when Ward Bond died of a heart attack and that Johnny HORTON also died in a car crash. At first I thought it was Flint!

Maverick for its comedy value.

Gunsmoke for its good story telling.

I wish that they would make westerns today. the closest we have is Longmire. good news is that Netflix is going to do a third season of it.

***two short-lived mid-1960s westerns, ***

Some of those short lived westerns were merely summer replacements, done away with when the regular TV season started up again in the fall. Anyone remember TATE, The one armed gunman?

I was just a kid when Ward Bond died. I was so confused because he kept on showing up on episodes of WT. Didn't know they taped episodes during the summer for the fall season.

A shame he never got an Emmy for his role, but he was blacklisted in Hollywood because of his anti communist leanings.

I remember him as Yancy Derringer.

Anyone remember the shows JIM BOWIE or SKY KING, FURY?

“Tate” is a terrific little short-lived series. Starred the dude who was the Marlboro Man. Had a number of scripts by Harry Julian Fink, who also wrote some of the best “Have Gun Will Travel” episodes. An official DVD set came out of it, released by a company named Timeless, which seemed to specialize in tv-western fare for a while there.

Another extremely good but short-lived western series, “The Dakotas,” from 1963, just recently came out. Probably one of the harshest and most violent of the 1960s westerns.

I know it wasn’t on very long and I am mostly younger than some of you. I really liked

alias smith and jones. Ptobably would have lasted longer if Pete Duel had not died.

High Chaparral, Gun Smoke, and The Rifleman. Kinda stopped watching Bonanza because every time Hoss, Adam, or Little Joe fell in love, the poor woman died some kind of horrible death or couldn’t make up her mind to settle down. I stopped watching The Big Valley because Mrs. Barkley was always being kidnapped for some reason.

BUT...
As for Bonanza, I always loved watching Hop Sing getting hostile whenever any of the Cartwrights decided to critique Sing’s culinary prowess, and it was actually really laughable when Victoria Barkley got kidnapped YET AGAIN because she was such an easy prey—never was packing any heat.

From Wikipedai:

“The television series (Gunsmoke) ran for 20 seasons from 1955 to 1975, and stands as the United States’ longest-running prime time, live-action drama with 635 episodes.
