FLANDREAU, S.D. The Santee Sioux tribe has already proven its business acumen, running a successful casino, a 120-room hotel and a 240-head buffalo ranch on the plains of South Dakota.
But those enterprises have not been immune to competition and the lingering effects of the Great Recession, so the small tribe of 400 is undertaking a new venture opening the nation's first marijuana resort on its reservation. The experiment could offer a new money-making model for tribes nationwide seeking economic opportunities beyond casinos.
Santee Sioux leaders plan to grow their own pot and sell it in a smoking lounge that includes a nightclub, arcade games, bar and food service, and eventually, slot machines and an outdoor music venue....

The Up In Smoke Casino
I wonder how long it will be before we see legalized prostitution on reservation lands?
No they will not earn enough to buy their land back. But God willing they can earn enough to move themselves into a prosperous future.
The various tribes have been shat upon by the “Great white Father” so many times, I can only pray that this and other endeavors make the entire tribe wealth beyond belief.

This gives a new meaning to “High Rollers.”
“Can somebody explain why it is legal to have casino gambling on Indian reservations, but its illegal in many states for you or I to open a gambling business?????”
It is the Indian Nation and the same laws do not apply and I approve.

You should file your claim on that one, it could bring you in some money. Highyet, Hiyet, etc cover all the possibles.
24 hour food service...for the munchies.
Like I said to a friend when we walked into the Indian casino before a concert and saw all the ashtrays: it’s like a whole other country. Depending on the state there’s some laws around it, but reses don’t have all the same laws as their state. If whites, blacks and Asians want to live on crappy reservations with no job opportunities other than casinos they too could have casinos.
Sad.
FIRST? I read that a resort in Durango Colorado was already doing that!
Probably give them the pot for next to nothing then sell them chips and drinks at a huge markup. That would be brilliant.
Residual tribal sovereignty, pretty much all that’s left of the otherwise abrogated treaties between these United States and the American Indians. They get to make their own laws on the little reservations they were herded into (though incoherently can only run gambling operations if their reservation is in state which allows any form of gambling — state lottery? Your Indians get to run casinos).
or is it the great American indian tradition to sit around stoned?...
To permit is to "push"? George Orwell, call your office.
