Someone Please Explain How SO Many People Would Take Carson Over CRUZ? I Don't Get That At All-
Reaganite Republican ^ | 21 October 2015 | Reaganite Republican

Posted on 10/21/2015 9:16:14 AM PDT by Reaganite Republican

I like Dr Ben Carson. I respect Ben Carson. I admire what he made of himself and how he's seemed to have lived his life. I agree with almost everything that comes out of his mouth. But what can this man possibly offer as a leader that we wouldn't simply get more-and-better of from Ted Cruz?

Ben Carson is a good man, and it's difficult to 'attack' him on any specific major issue- he's said some dumb things about guns before, but generally there's not much daylight between our views. Alas, after enduring the utterly-unqualified Obama wreck the country, how is this über-outsider thing so attractive to so many that nothing else carries any weight with them but
'who spent the least time in DC'?

And nobody who knows what they're talking about would ever consider Ted Cruz to be a 'DC political insider': it could be said it took a lot more balls for Cruz to stand on that Senate floor and confront McConnell head-on under the glaring lights, placing his entire political career on the line (while the GOPe sneered and the media trashed him) than to make comments on social media from some comfy office suite like Ben Carson and Donald Trump were doing at the time. Despite his glistening resume, Ted Cruz is surely NO
Washington DC establishment 'insider'- nothing of the sort.

And other than 'outsider', Dr Carson has no qualifications whatsoever to be president- how is that a good idea? Perhaps his medical expertise would have some use in replacing Obamacare, but that's nothing to be basing your entire choice-for-president on.

To be blunt, I've dealt with doctors business-wise in the past, and find them to be generally terrible managers. Years spent in medical school and what they do for a living -which is as much art as it is science- affects their way of thinking, prioritizing, and organizing things. And accomplished medical professionals are used to others following their orders, not dealing with difficult, recalcitrant people who disagree with them all the time- in fact, top surgeons are put on a pedestal and used to never hearing 'no'. As Trump is happy to point-out, Carson has zero experience in negotiating, either. In the end, financial and operational management are just a different mind set than your average brain surgeon... imho.

Do a lot of people like Carson because he's black? I'm sure that's part of it, maybe some still feel the need to 'prove' they're not 'racist'- seems ludicrous to me, but I'm sure that's out there in some quantity.

If some imagine he would bring black votes to Republican ticket based on his skin color, most polls I've seen have Trump doing great with black voters... proving they don't need to be pandered to with the 'right' color of candidate, they want JOBS and a strong America (in large numbers).

Ted Cruz knows how Capitol Hill works -without having sold out to the establishment- and is impressively qualified for the job of president. He's displayed a far more substantial and relevant knowledge of foreign policy
-at a turbulent time internationally- than Dr Carson, has raised more money, and seems far better organized for a long-run presidential campaign.

Ted Cruz is a God-fearing Christian, just like Dr Carson... yet a far more skilled and effective communicator. It's long been my view we need a guy or gal who can SELL the conservative message to a tired and confused electorate- somebody who can battle the MSM while simultaneously overcoming the 'progressive' propaganda/nonsense that's been
shoved down America's throat for years.

A lot of what Reagan did wasn't popular at first, and the benefits of his investment-based tax cuts would take some time to fully bear fruit- but he was a superb communicator and salesman that kept everybody with the program- precisely what we need today.

Alas, Ben Carson seems to lack this ability, from what I can see-
his 'mellowness' is definitely not a positive when you need to hit the road
on a massive PR/sales offensive.

So where's the logic behind supporting Carson over Cruz? I'm not trying to be some kind of smart-ass, I just honestly don't see one single reason for it... would welcome any explanation from good-faith Carson supporters, there's apparently quite a few of you out there.

People want an outsider. A sitting senator is, by definition, an insider.

Two part answer:

1) Most people except Cruzians don’t think he can win (I, for example, don’t).

2) Most people aren’t doctors and most people haven’t been up close and personal with Academic Medical Center Department Chairmen, so they aren’t engaged with your perfectly cogent and correct reasoning about why such a person would make a lousy President.

I believe Carson’s unfitness for the office will be exposed, and most of his voters will go to Trump.

“My idea would be Cruz/Lee or Cruz/West”

Do you have a theory about how either of those tickets could win 270 EVs?

I like Cruz, but I’m afraid that if he should get the nomination, he loses to Hillary.

Fear of Hillary -- or fear of whoever the Democrat nightmare du jour happens to be, and everyone assumed it would be Hillary in 2007-early 2008, remember? "Anybody but Hillary" was the battle cry of Republican sheep, and they got their wish, they got Obama -- fear that has been deliberately instilled in you by Democrats/MSM is STILL poised to bamboozle you into voting against your own interests. You are being manipulated by way of fear, and you are falling for it like a sucker for a con.

Fear is useful as a warning but a VERY BAD guide for making choices. WHEN o when are you going to finally figure that out? It only took me about 34 years.

Why Martinez? She is a successful Governor. She is a Latino. She is a woman. She is the antithesis of the republican party being the party of old white men.

A Cuban and Latino on the ticket destroys all the Democrat attacks. Forces a discussion on the real issues

Nope. Political theory is a fools game that is wrong pretty much every time. Its what RINOs like to spout as they spiral into defeat again and again and again.

I will vote my principles PERIOD.

P.S. You Trump supporters are blind to the fact that when all is said and done, Trump believes in "better lives through better government."

You seem to think that as long as a patriotic successful businessman is overseeing the application of "better" government to solve problems, it's okay. And you're right, he's best at that and that is what he'll do in the four years he's in office -- create MORE GOVERNMENT, only his kind of government; in the end, should Cruz follow up, he'll have even more government to roll back than he does now.

See my tagline. When Trump starts surprising you by doing things you didn't intend to vote for, you had better be willing to be accountable for them.

I had not heard that about Carson and civil unions or his flip on when life begins.

I support Cruz 100% anyway, and I take his so-called shortcomings H1B and (TPP also)in context of his whole immigration plan (enforcement first) where others here just toss them out in an out of context fashion.
TPP should never have passed accept for the fact that our government is lawless.
There is nobody who would be better to defend the Constitution and rule of law in this country than Ted Cruz. The most hated man in Washington DC.
He is most assuredly not an insider!!

Either that Graphic is wrong or I’m Color Blind.

Do they have one including The Jebster, or his picture supposed to go where they have Trump’s picture?

If marketing was what marketers claim it is, the Disney movie Dick Tracy would have been a mega-hit, and Star Wars would have been a flop (the big marketing push came after it was a hit at the box office).

Cruz is legitimate, but he won't beat Clinton because the GOPe will do everything they can to pull him down. They'd rather have a Dem president than a true conservative one. The key to Trump's and Carson's success is that the GOPe has no means of dealing with them- they have no political leverage to keep those two toeing the party line, because they have not been 'groomed' up through the GOPe rank-and-file.

Americans see that, and after 20-plus years of betrayal, they love it. They want it. And that drives the GOPe absolutely bonkers.

Simply delicious.

I agree with you. Senator Cruz has always been my first choice because he has MOST effectively demonstrated that the MAIN cause of our distress as a nation is that we have ignored God and His ways.

Carson’s numbers went up when he called out Islam for the evil that it is. He should greatly admired.

“Ok, I’ve got to ask. Why Martinez?”

Voting for someone because of their ethnicity or gender is what LIV’s do. Martinez is a decent governor at best. She has a horrible advisor who leads her down the establishment path. He had her campaigning for Christie, perhaps in hopes that Christie would actually go somewhere in a future presidential bid. She went squishy on 2A issues, after promising to never do so, and that’s when many here in New Mexico saw her as a traitor.

You still didn’t answer my question. I get that she’s Latino, a woman, etc., etc., but what does she bring to the table with the ability to lead a country going through arguably, one of its defining moments in its history. Governor of New Mexico? Ok....what has she accomplished? Did she control the border in her state to the ability she could? What has she done with respect to Obamacare and expanding Medicaid funding? Did she cut spending state spending? Did she reduce size of government and prevent it from sticking it’s nose where it doesn’t belong? Again, don’t check the boxes and tell me why she can be elected, tell me why she can lead and make things happen.
