* Football players boycotted, and essentially forced the tumbling of Mizzouâs power structure
* All across the country, college administrators are taking notice and some are scared
* The power dynamics in a billion dollar industry are changing
COLUMBIA â
The intention, presumably, was to show strength and solidarity.
On the surface, Missouri's two most powerful athletics officials did that in a press conference here on Monday. Gary Pinkel, the football coach, talked of supporting his players. Mack Rhoades, the athletics director, talked of using an extraordinary last few days to improve life on campus.
But underneath all of that is a layer of fear, which is an awkward look for those used to power. The fear is here at the state's flagship university the same as it is growing at Kansas and Kansas State and every other school across the country in the billion dollar business of major college sports.
This is a major moment. College sports, or at least the power dynamics within college sports, will never be quite the same. Coaches and administrators can be divided into two categories: those who adjust the way they deal with athletes, and those who will struggle and even lose their jobs because they refuse....

Can someone summarize the issue?
Admittedly I tune out college football politics, but seems I should be informed on this case.
Big College Bubble starting to pop. It’s unsustainable at current tuition prices.
They are learning the way you can turn the US into a police state with the flip of a switch. Every country and culture works differently, its just a matter of figuring out what works where.
They have got the US figured out. Flip of a switch, police state. And no one dares or even wants to stop them.
They are reaping what they sowed. They turned students into angry little revolutionaries, eager to overthrow the established order. Colleges are now going to have to deal with that. In all likelihood, colleges will join in the anti-USA movement.
The solution to this is so obvious and simple. Everyone (the adults, if there are any left) should boycott the football game Saturday, and thereafter, until sanity returns.
You could not pay me to go to a game an cheer on these idiots.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Rather than tell them to play or lose their football scholarships, the president caved and resigned.
I suspect someone(s) made him an offer he couldn't refuse-- a cushy early retirement package now vs. an uncertain future.
I hope people will boycott college sports!
No one cared until the football team got involved. The football team is running the show now.
Coming soon to a university near you -- Cultural Revolution, Part 2.
Big College Bubble starting to pop. Itâs unsustainable at current tuition prices.
Close these institutions of higher propaganda down.
Just like at Ole’ Miss, the administration will crumble for the benefit of a black athlete for the football team. Tradition, history, honor and integrity mean nothing. The most important item is the recruitment and retention of a black athlete at all costs.
Cry and whine, bitch and moan, demand ‘change’, throw a tantrum, target the administration, call them racists and you get what you want...................
would have been an accurate prediction back in the '70s ... in fact, it's long since already happened
They are going after the Chancellor of the university now.....................
Sam Mellinger is a sport reporter and a pretty good one. Gary Pinkel is a college football coach and the dumbest box of rocks in the entire galaxy of college football coaches. He no longer runs the Mizzou football team, a group of players run the program and this coach can do nothing about it.
Someone on Free Republic noted several weeks ago that some was brewing in Columbia. The report was that the national leaders of the BLM movement, the Ferguson, MO dust up, and the Baltimore riots (presumably guided by the White House) had decided to shut down the Ferguson effort and move on to the Mizzou campus in Columbia. This has nothing to do with racism at Mizzou, it has to do with a major muscle move to gain power across the country.
All the while the Educators were molding the little minds of mush into a social change activitists, they never considered their monster might turn on them.
Schadenfreude, indeed.
