Avis Car Rental Latest Statement regarding Israeli citizen renting car.
11/23/15 | me

Posted on 11/23/2015 12:59:45 PM PST by machogirl

From Avis Facebook, new statement. Guess they Varsity team took over. (much better statement)

We have investigated the denial of a rental that recently occurred in Manhattan. We have found that we have been inconsistent in applying our policies with respect to documentation requirements with this customer, who has rented from us in the past without providing a second form of identification. We are committed to providing an outstanding car rental experience to our customers and believe that we should have done better here. We have spoken with the customer and apologized for the misunderstanding that occurred as a result of this inconsistency in applying our documentation policy, and the customer has accepted our apology. We reiterate our policy that we do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin or sexual orientation. We intend to take steps, including additional training, to improve the consistency in our application of documentation policies.

The swell of angry customers grew.

Exactly. They had to find something beyond "oops" to use as an excuse.

Boy, you REALLY got a dog in this fight.

You're willing to address the single example from Yelp, but none of the other complaints that all run in a similar vein: gouging, scamming, shysterism, rudeness, "terrible customer service representatives, totally unenthusiastic and careless."

Apparently, though - "Angeline" is the one you want to get if you're desperate enough to go there. Except if you're an Israeli...

I just got through up-voting all the negative reviews on yelp.

Did your mouse finger get a cramp?

I don’t see any connection between a bad yelp rating and this case.

The agent’s request for a passport was consistent with her training and company policy. Her manager and the national company backed her up on this.

There was no bad customer service.
The customer threw a fit when asking for required docs, tried to bully the employees into breaking policy.
Was initially denied for his refusal to provide passport, then for throwing a fit and being rude.

Maybe conscience will come after an internet mob decides to unfairly smear and wreck a business or family member you care about.

There'd be trouble if a business declined to treat me in the same manner that they had treated me in the past because some pin-headed bureaucratlette wanted to throw their weight around.

So your protestations in this matter are falling on deaf ears.

Boy, you REALLY got a dog in this fight.

I noticed that from the beginning last night. I've already sent my memos off to put Avis at the bottom of our company vendor list. Easy recommendation. Too many issues with surprise charges from them.

I think I'll check out that Yelp listing. I have a new mouse.

Let's see how this works.
(agent's computer screen)

***
This foreign customer should present passport or international drivers license in addition to their country's drivers license

***

"Sir, I see you've given me an israeli driver's license and a credit card, but I also need a passport to complete this rental."

"i rented two days ago without needing one"

"It's policy sir, whether the agent did her job two days or not I still have to do mine correctly"

"You won't accept my israeli drivers license? You must hate jews and israel!"
Manager: "She's right, we need a passport sir"

"Another anti-semite!"

National office: "We accept israeli drivers license, but she's correct in also requesting a passport"
"You people hate israel and jews! I'll tell the press! Do you know who I am? I'll have your job!"

Agent: That's it I'm not renting to this guy
Manager: Yup

"What if I gave my passport now?"

Cynwoody: Hey I did some research on the agent. Maybe someone will go after her?
Let's totally destroy this company for their anti-semitism. *Click* *Click* *Click* ...Big misguided internet mob destroys another innocent target

T^hanks for sharing your fantasy of the occurrence.

There's a good story you should read:

to rent a car in some foreign countries they not only check your passport but the visa you have that shows when you entered and how long you can stay...I know, one time in a foreign country they didnt stamp my passport and I had to return to airport immigration to get entry date stamp in order to rent a car...hotels also take down your passport number.

I think you make a reasonable case.

I don't think so. His (or her) response has been over the top emotionally and suggests a personal bias that has not been disclosed. I don't think we have all the facts about the bias yet. Full disclosure would help.

Black Muslims are not overly fond of Israel or Israelis, and that may be a factor that led to the discrepancy. We would have to ascertain that the woman with the apparent Arabic first name (the one with the other employment lawsuit) is in fact Moslem, and if she, in fact, reacted differently to this Wizard customer, and treated him differently than she did other customers.

Writing fake negative reviews because truth and integrity are super important to you?

How would you know the reviews are fake negative? Are they like all of your made up facts on the numerous avis threads you spammed?

I have enough experience with avis to write a number of true negative reviews. Why do you continue to have a problem with the truth? Anyone that still works for avis has very questionable integrity.

Just finishing up another memo to a large energy company that goes over Avis overcharges to them with young drivers.

Keep up the good work. I was going to let that incident slide until you came along.

“I think you make a reasonable case.”

“I don’t think so. His (or her) response has been over the top emotionally and suggests a personal bias that has not been disclosed. I don’t think we have all the facts about the bias yet. Full disclosure would help.”

Sure I’ll try my best to disclose my biases.

1) Feels disgust when misled internet mob smears and destroys innocent people and businesses.

Remember the leading cancer scientist whose career was ended by an internet mob’s false accusations of sexism? How did it make you feel knowing cancer patients may have died because he was forced out on false smears? He was later totally vindicated, but never got his job back.
I’m very skeptical of rushed internet mob justice.

2) Have you ever seen execs throwing their weight around to get employees to break policy as in this case?
It’s not pretty.
But people act out of fear for their jobs and give in.
Perhaps it worked on the rental 2 days prior, to secure a rental without passport...

3) How do you feel about false accusations of racism.
This is an epidemic on the left, and causes large wreckage on individuals and companies.
It’s a gross injustice with serious cost.
Is this something we should reward and encourage?

4) How do you feel about journalistic malpractice.
The author of the first article in observer could have done 20 seconds of research to discover the agent acted totally consistently with company policy in requesting a passport.
Instead the author left implications that the agent and office were refusing to accept the israeli drivers license alone out of pure bigotry and malice.
That’s breathtaking irresponsibility.
And what cost? An internet mob doing huge wreckage.

5) Execs should be held to a higher standard.
Here we have an exec throwing out wild accusations of bigotry, trashing an agent and national company.
He could have taken a deep breath to realize they just followed training and policy. But no, he ran to the press screaming “bigotry!”.

How is that justice. The customer fails to provide requested docs, is totally rude giving them a new reason to refuse the rental, so he responds by wrecking their company and brand with false accusations of bigotry.
So much unfair damage for what — this exec’s ego?

6) Freepers were doing research on the rental agent and publishing details, with the implied hope of causing her real life difficulties. That’s disgusting to me.
This kind of thing is getting all too common on the internet.

7) Freepers are emulating the very worst behaviors and attitudes of the SJW movement.
