Taliban Like Attitudes in American South
London Telegraph ^ | January 13th, 2016 | reasonmclucus

The world cringed when the Taliban destroyed ancient Buddhist Statues in Afghanistan. The Taliban destroyed the historic artifacts because Buddhist statues represented something the Taliban considered immoral. They didn’t want people to be reminded that people in the region had at one time been involved in something that was no longer considered morally acceptable. Buddhist statues were not “politically correct” under the Taliban’s view of the Muslim religion. Allowing the statues to stay advertised that Afghans had once behaved in what the Taliban regarded as an immoral fashion. Recent reports claim that ISIS may be doing the same thing to historic artifacts where they are operating.

I read that a anonymous donor is behind this proposal. What are the odds that one or more of these monuments is in the way of someone's planned development?

I think the anonymous donor is a very successful personal injury lawyer named Cummins. Before the recent gubernatorial election a PI hired by Vitter was trying to electronically eavesdrop on a conversation between Neal Normand the Sheriff of Jeff parish and this pig in a restaurant. Normand spotted him and raised a big stink but because it was in a public place nothing criminal could be stirred up. There are a lot of the usual swamp state underhand politics at work. Cummins hates the white traditional South. He has a tax loss ‘museum’ describing the horrors of blackamoor slavery on a big cotton farm he owns upstate. He and slime like Cleo Fields helped orchestrate the last governor’s race along with repulicrap weasels such as the LT Gov who were either jealous or afraid of Vitter as some one who owed few here and detested many of the fake republicraps. There are going to be more attempts to conduct a commie style purge of politically incorrect monuments in Louisiana in the next few years.

Liberals are the Taliban of America, trying to tear down any symbol that they don’t like.

The Southerners who are compared to the Taliban are those who want to and are pulling down statues of Confederate generals.

I think they would be disappointed in attitudes in the American South. They wouldnt last long here if we were given free reign to get rid of them. Meanwhile, they would likely find England much more to their liking.

From the article:

"As the great grandson of a Union soldier I have never really understood why southerners would want to erect statues of losers. "

I think your lack of understanding is due to the fact that you are ignorant and biased in favor of your ancestor's actions.

That was what I was thinking as well. This fellow didn't think his analogy through. He has ended up rooting for the book burning, statue destroying censorship side.

From the article:

People in New Orleans, La., and other southern cities want to remove statues of men who had the audacity to not have the same moral values people have today. Many southerners prior to the Civil War accepted the African and Muslim moral value that it was acceptable for one person to own others. Africans had been buying, selling and owning each other for thousands of years and they had no problem with selling their fellow Africans to Europeans like they had been selling their fellow Africans to people in the Middle Eas

...the author is confusing Southerners wanting to remove Confederate statues w/ Liberals who want to.

I’m trying to figure out if this hogwallow from the London Telegraph is the most divisive click-bait found on FR today or just the latest.

Having read the article again, I conclude the author isn't at all clear in what he is trying to say.

He's sending a mixed message.

It's not what I would consider a Pulitzer prize worthy headline.
