NYC politician wants to let black people urinate in public so they can "fulfill their potential"

NYC politician introduces bill which allows black people to urinate in public so they can “fulfill their potential”

A New York City politician has introduced a bill which allows black people to urinate in public so they can “fulfill their potential.”

Personally, I think this politicians’ expectations of black people are too low. But they did choose to vote her into office, and I have no right to tell them what their goals in life should or shouldn’t be.

The New York Times reports:

New York City is poised to reshape how it treats many so-called quality-of-life offenses, softening its stance toward low-level infractions like public urination…

Under the legislation, New Yorkers given tickets by the police… would in many cases be steered to a civil process rather than criminal court…

“We know that the system has been really rigged against communities of color in particular,” said Ms. Mark-Viverito, who has promoted such reforms and is the main sponsor of the bills. “So the question has always been, what can we do in this job to minimize unnecessary interaction with the criminal justice system, so that these young people can really fulfill their potential?”

Health officials, for example, agreed to repeal a section of the department’s rules that forbids public urination…

The issue of public urination became a subject of intense public debate last summer…

Rather than expect civilized behavior, we are to lower our expectations: de-criminalize drug use, and now public urination.

What's "uncivilized" about drug use? Is use of the drug alcohol "uncivilized"?

Alcohol abuse is uncivilized; I’ve done it myself.

I agree that ABuse of anything is uncivilized. You implied a stronger statement: that any use of drugs is uncivilized. Does that apply to the drug alcohol?

I can see a growing business where restraunt owners pay people to piss elsewhere. I assume that white people will be able to go into wealthy black areas and piss too.

Alcohol is not a drug, it’s a medicine.

No; it doesn’t involve caffeine or Tylenol either. I should have clarified that I was referring to illegal drug use.

Do the two go together? It would seem so.

So alcohol use during Prohibition was uncivilized? I beg to differ.

I'll bet beer fuels more public urination than any illegal drug - should beer be banned?

Alcohol is not a drug,

Among the dictionary definitions of "drug" is "any article, other than food, intended to affect the structure or any function of the body" - which the brain-function-affecting substance alcohol fits.

it's a medicine.

Really? I've never seen it in the pharmacy section of any store.

Just a heads-up, Albion.

Your Trump vote on today's caucus thread was invalid:

DoughtyOne wrote:

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE YOUR POST BOLD, A DIFFERENT FONT SIZE, OR ADD PUNCTUATION. DON'T ADD TEXT, LIKE "Vote Name, of course".

I do not wish to invalidate anyone's vote, but your creativity leads to others wanting to be creative. Be creative on other threads if you value your vote.

To Vote: pick from the candidates here, and type "Vote" and the "Name" as it appears here. You're vote should look just like one of these selections.

Vote Trump

You posted vote trump.

You need to capitalize the v and the t in order for the vote to count.

You can check with DoughtyOne, but I'm pretty sure it's invalid:

DoughtyOne wrote: If you have questions, FReep Mail me. DO NOT disqualify your vote by posting anything other than votes on the thread. No exceptions.

You can vote again, since you haven't really voted.

You can “beg to differ” all you want; do you think it was any accident that Prohibition came about after women could vote? There was enough uncivilized behavior to cause an uproar at the time.

Alcohol use is sometimes a contributing factor in uncivilized behavior - but that doesn't make alcohol use in and of itself uncivilized behavior.
