Sigh...unintended or intended consequences?
It mentioned that some franchise locations were already raising costs.
I thought they all had to charge the same thing.
.
Self-service is much better than humans where there is a good probability they will screw up the order. The gas station chain Wawa uses kiosks for ordering subs and the like.
Oh the humanity.
Wendy’s is putting profits ahead of workers* welfare.
Oh the humanity.
I find it interesting how the word “workers” has replaced the word “employees” in media and by the Federals.
Takes me back to those wonderful uplifting news stories out of the Soviet Union.
Automated ordering will reduce service times and reduce order errors for all businesses. Businesses that want to stand out will shift some of the employees to improving store conditions. If they’d had an electronic order system at Cook Out Hamburgers, where I was directed by my son the other night, the young lady who got our order wrong could have been mopping up the spilled milkshake that sat on the floor for 15 minutes.
Okay, in a Wendy’s that takes care of 1-2 folks working the register. It doesn’t do anything for the 5-8 people back cooking food or manning the drive through, which probably isn’t ready for automation.
Always thought a good cartoon for this would be a lone loafing fast food working leaning on the counter with the caption:
“Isn’t this new $15 minimum wage awesome, dude? ...Dude?”
Coming soon to major US Cities.... a tax on kiosks. You heard it hear first.
Eat N Bolt - because calling it a meal instead of fuel ingestion is old-fashioned.
Here's a proof of concept. The commercial application will just be just scaled down a little:
And the targeting cameras are already in place:
And Google already had the basic tracking app:
Unions seek exemption from LA minimum wage law they helped pass.
Allow your workers to unionize and you can continue to pay them $8/hr. Block unionization, and you'll have to pay them $15/hr.
That’s fine. Better to have less workers, who are making a living wage rather than incompetent fools supplementing their government handouts.
When the government interferes with the right of a business to make decisions for itself, the consequences are not good. Others will follow suit. Goodbye entry-level jobs! Was this what the democrats intended?
Fast food is going to be a royal ripoff. Not worth the price anymore. So much for my dineros. A lot less
Self-ordering is a good thing. It eliminates one more chance for error in getting the order right. In my area, this is less a problem at Wendy’s, where the staff mostly speak English, than it is at McDonald’s, which is a major Ebonics and Spanish language center, but the problem does arise from time to time.
I went into a McDonald’s in Paris with a self-ordering machine.
Most commonly in Europe, I just bought a wrapped sandwich in a supermarket and used an automatic checkout machine.
In Washington, DC, I bought wrapped cold cuts and bread. I used a manned checkout though.
it happens in all fields and just because its happening at the lower tier of wages we probably shouldn't gloat because who knows...we'll probably have robots piloting planes and robots doing engineering work....
It takes 3 seconds to say “a number 1 medium drink”. It takes a lot longer to navigate thru the menus on the touch screen. Sucks.
From low-paying job to no paying job. Well done, leftists.
What they need to do is raise the minimum wage to a thousand dollars an hour. Hell, if you are going to go, go first class, go all the way. I stopped going to Wendy’s when they went to the automated drink dispenser. When I go to another fast food place, if I see the automated drink dispenser, I turn around and walk out.
Went to a sit down BBQ joint with a kiosk at the table. while we were deciding my 3yo granddaughter ordered a dozen donuts! lol they were good though!
