Please help! I need a job in the Tulsa area immediately! In danger of being homeless by sept. 8th!

Posted on 08/17/2016 10:57:18 AM PDT by acad1228

I'm a 54 year old draftsman. I've been unemployed since March 2nd. I've been to 31 job interviews after applying to over 60 companies. No one wants to hire a 54 year-old man who is confined to a wheel chair.

When I was laid off from my job of over 22 years, I finally bit the bullet and filed for disability. I was approved, but I won't start receiving payments until October 26th. My rent on this place is due on Sept. 8th but my last unemployment check won't cover it. My wife and I are both disabled and out of much needed meds.

I'm not some damned bum looking to let the government take care of me. I've worked hard all my life. Since I graduated high school, I've rarely worked less than 40 hours per week. I actually calculated it and I've paid in well over $200,000 in State and Federal taxes.

Please, if anyone knows of a job in the Tulsa area that I could do from a wheel chair, let me know. It will be painful, but it's nothing I haven't been dealing with for over the past ten years.

It doesn't even have to be long term. Just enough to get me through to the end of October.

Talk to your landlord. If you have been a good tenant and can show you can make it up, chances are good you might get an extension.

Unfortunately drafting jobs have moved to China and India along with the manufacturing plants. Pray for Trump to win in November because he is the only one who has talked about re-negotiating foreign trade in a substantial manner, with America first in mind.

Best luck to you!

Won’t your landlord give you a months respite while you wait for the disability check to kick in?

What engineering discipline do you draft for?

Been there myself, without the disability. I got help from some freepers. When the time comes, and it’s not here yet, I will be paying it forward. If my job comes through and I start on 8/29, on 9/10 I would be happy to send you 100.

It takes 3 months to evict someone.

Not for nonpayment. Also, costs stack quick, to the point where the expenses are 2x the rent.

Well I wouldn’t hire you either if you’re telling them you only need work til the end of Oct......most employees wouldn’t.

Since you just need a fill gap...why not go to the “Temporary Services” in your area.....those are short term assignments...but if you have the skill they will find a place for you.

If he interviews as well as he asked for help here...no wonder no one has hired him.

Perhaps try some patent law firms in your region? We have a local draftsman who does most of our patent drawings.

I’d bet with his disability he could get most any government job quickly and be at a GS-5 level. He just doesn’t have the knowhow to do that.

I haven’t seen any response to my question yet either? I can’t help him if he won’t respond.

I’m up here in Washington State and my company is dying to get qualified drafters/designers in Civil Engineering. We might be able tele-commute for work

A “draftsman” of 22 years should have loads of experience with all sorts of CAD and production management tools. Plus lots engineering experience. Why doesn’t he list those?

Talk to your landlord and explain your situation to them. Hopefully they will be able to take a partial month’s payment with the agreement that you will pay all past due when your disability claim is approved in October. It cost them money not only to go to court and get an eviction but to clean, repaint, and re-rent the unit. If you have been a good tenant and have been paying each month on time they will probably be understanding. I worked as a property manager many years ago. We had a case similar to yours and when the lady came in to talk with me about it I agreed to a payment plan that was doable for them. She paid on time as agreed. I even gave them a month’s rent free for being honest and upfront with me.
