Portland, Oregon (CNN) — At least 14 people were arrested on Sunday amid competing protests in Portland, Oregon, over a tangled web of emotions to arise from a deadly commuter train stabbing in May.

Hundreds of supporters of US President Donald Trump converged on Terry D. Schrunk Plaza for an event billed as a "Trump Free Speech" rally. They were slightly outnumbered by a mixed assemblage of counterprotesters across the street who viewed the free speech rally as an implicit endorsement of racism given its close timing to the racially charged stabbing.

The groups were separated by a wall of officers, heavily armed and wearing protective body armor, from local and federal police agencies.....

The Jill Stein supporters were fighting the Bernie Sanders supporters? Those are two people the shooter expressed support for.

There is nothing extreme in supporting the American Republic

One side showed that they loved the USA and they remembered those who were stabbed on the train Friday a week ago.

The other side included people who shouted epithets and threw objects at the pro-USA, pro-Trump protestors and some who marched around knocking newspaper machines over and acting otherwise violent until police dispersed them.

“Racially Charged”

One white guy stabs three other white guys. That makes it racially charged??

The “racist” stabber is a Bernie Sanders supporter who voted for Jill Stein.

Nice try, Communist News Network.

**Portland police said Sunday evening that 14 people were arrested, and several dozen knives, bricks, sticks and other weapons were seized.

By late afternoon, police closed nearby Chapman Square where a separate group of protesters – many wearing masks and black clothing and identified as anti-fascists – also demonstrated. Police used flash-bang grenades and pepper balls to disperse that crowd after saying protesters were hurling bricks and other objects at officers.**

Every account I have seen reports : **The people gathered at the free speech rally organized by the conservative group Patriot Prayer and counter-protesters at City Hall were not involved in those clashes, police said.**

Stupid CNN copy editors!

"To arise" implies (in this context) that it will or should arise in the future.

I'll let the "deadly commuter train stabbing" pass, although it is also unfelicitous (Did someone stab a train? Did a train stab someone?).

It’s funny.
From what I can tell, all the arrests were of AntiFa fascists.
But the news tries to make it look like the Alt-Right was arrests or participated in attacking the cops.
