NFL players and coaches talk Trump, chance of more protests
The Gwinnett Daily Post ^ | September 27, 2017 | CNN Staff

Three days after NFL players locked arms to protest President Trump's criticisms of those who kneel during the National Anthem, the topic remained on the minds of many around the league.

Players and coaches took podiums during the NFL's weekly media day to field questions about the protests and whether they'll demonstrate again this weekend. Trump, meanwhile, continued to hammer the league for its handling of the protests.

"The NFL is in a very bad box. You cannot have people disrespecting our national anthem, our flag, our country. And in my opinion, the NFL has to change or you know what's going to happen. In my opinion, their business is going to go to hell," Trump said outside the White House.

Here is what some players and coaches had to say Wednesday:

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin

"If an American can't air their grievances to the republic for which it stands, then where can they air their grievances? And when you have the President of our country basically saying, 'I don't want to hear your protest, I don't want to hear your grievances,' then I think that's where we have the challenge."

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman

"Our President gets into the 'we' and 'them' kind of conversations and, you know, sometimes you wonder, who's 'we' and who's 'them'?"

Sherman added, "I think when you're the President of the United States and you're talking about fellow Americans, you always have to say 'we' ... or you become divisive."

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy

The coach said he would stand with his players in locked arms ahead of the Packers' "Thursday Night Football" showdown against division rival the Chicago Bears.....

If these overpaid thugs, er, players want to make a statement, why not join in with the BLM protests? On their OWN time, not on company time!!!

If we, the people, don’t give ‘em plenty of “backlash” then they win.

Republicans, “conservatives,” have conceded every cultural battlefield to the Left for over 50 years. When do we begin to fight back?

I suggest all of us who a re not going to watch football this weekend to go out and do something very AMERICAN. Help out a neighbor, do a good deed, fly your flag, help clean up a park or something.

Can the NFL Owners, Coaches and Players be that dumb? Answer.....for sure they are!!!

Forgot standing and locking arms....this is nothing but BS. Stand on the field with your right hand covering your heart and sing the National Anthem “Star Spangled Banner” loud & clear, for all to see and hear. Anything less is not acceptable.

And...then openly apologize to all the American People and our great POTUS, Donald J. Trump, for being such stupid fools, idiots, traitors & turncoats who hate the American Flag, Our Great National Anthem, and every American that served in the USA military, especially the ones that died in the service our great nation, so that you low life morons had the chance and opportunity to make millions of dollars. If not...then go to Hell...because that is where you all belong!!!

Frederick Hall who used the alias William Williams as a runaway African American slave who enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812 and who died from a mortal wound while defending Fort McHenry from the British naval bombardment in 1814.

The irony in that is so thick, you can cut it with a knife.

Unlike these pampered millionaire ball players, Private Hall endured real slavery, then fought and died for that flag they're disrespecting.

The president did not say he did not want to hear their grievances or protests. He said there is a time and a place. Don’t protest the very folks who gave you the ability to exercise your right to speak without Congress stopping you.

Loln they are trying to change what the protests were about.

Goodell is a leftist hack, his job was to distroy the NFL.

They’ve hit a nerve with Trump and he was, along with white people, their target in the first place the more Trump tweets, the better the black community can keep this up and solidify their base in the “hood”.

Sherman is an otherwise intelligent man, but he hasn't thought this through. The glory of the "republic for which it stands" is that people can air grievances under its protection. When one employs the protection of that republic in order to disrespect its flag, its anthem, its people who offer that protection, one is a hypocrite and a fool.

This country has brought them up, nurtured, educated, protected them and compensated them for athletic accomplishment at a level that is beyond the wildest dreams of the rest of the human race. They want to curse that country while enjoying its fruits. Time's up on that.

The NFL is acting like the drunk who got caught at a DWI checkpoint, and is popping open a beer.

Carolina Panthers players say that after Tuesday's meeting between the team's captains and owner Jerry Richardson they can join other NFL players in protest over the recent remarks of President Donald Trump without fear of backlash from the team owner.

That is fantastic.

These guys are too stupid to realize they are in a hole and they are still digging. They have no idea how fed up people are with these thugs. Absolutely no idea.

Tonight at dinner at the next table I heard two guys talking about how p-o'd they are about the kneeling. One of them comes from a family with season tickets. The family is dumping them.

Goodall and a bunch of brain damaged thugs are going to be looking for new jobs.

It’s amazing how easy it is to NOT watch NFL football. And it’s SO satisfying to not have to watch some overrated clown disrespect our National Banner and our National Anthem. When they lock arms, they are demonstrating NOT honoring the flag by putting their hand over their heart. Total blatant disrespect.

Maurkice Pouncey says all Steelers will stand for national anthem in Baltimore

“I promise you one thing this week — we’ll all be standing out there for the national anthem,” Pouncey said after practice Wednesday. “Trust me. We respect our flag and we respect the military. I think the bigger message was we were trying to stay out of it. That we should unite inside. It was all about the flag. It was just a big misunderstanding. Trust me, I’m very sorry to anyone who feels the way they do. I care about the flag dearly. Trust me, this team will be out there standing Sunday.”

Amongst all of this animus against Trump for calling out NFL players who take a knee in protest doing the National Anthem before the game, apparently it is the NFL and Roger Goodell who are not following their own league rules.

As is the case with most of these tweets from President Trump that sends all the liberals and media onto a frenzy, he's right again.
