And if those ratings plummet, next year those negotiations will not go well for owners. Live attendance is a huge indicator.

You've probably heard many misinformed reasons online why

I'd like to hear your reason why you direct Free Republic's traffic to your blog.

Owners want recurring revenue. A “long-term steady acute decline” will be _very_ hard to recover from. They’re not going to just sit around waiting for a crash to occur, they’re presumably having some pretty serious arguments with players etc about “don’t **** up our revenue stream just because of some self-righteous ‘protest’ y’all can’t even articulate!”

Colin, thanks to you as a BLM/NFL idiot, you woke Americans up to the NFL scam on our tvs and in our tax payer stadiums. Your contribution to Americans will be remembered, like 8 years of Obama and H. Clintoon's campaigning gave us President Trump!

Or the Dallas Cowgirl Pussies!

My guess: A lot of baseball attendance is just for the socializing. A few years ago my company treated all the employees to a game. A lot of people went just to hang out with work friends, socialize, get free food and drinks, etc. It was much more like a party than a sporting event. A lot of fun, but far more friend-centric than baseball-centric.

When it comes time to sell next year’s season tickets, it will be a much tougher sell.

Buyers figure they can resell tickets they don’t use to help defray costs. Some split up their packages and only figure they will attend a couple of games.

If the resale price of tickets is down, which it has to be with so many unoccupied seats, it will be difficult for teams to sell season tickets at the same price, and they will have to offer discounts, as well.

Frankly, I don’t know how football recovers. Now that the veneer has been stripped away, and it is no longer possible to pretend that the league has a patriotic core, a lot of pleasure has gone out of the game for a lot of fans.

I work with a couple of life-long Jets fans who never missed a game. These guys bleed green. I asked them about the blown call in yesterday’s game, expecting to get an earful, and they could not have cared less. They are not following the team this year, and were only vaguely aware that the Jets played the Patriots yesterday.

To say that this is an astounding transformation is under selling it.

Ratings for yesterday’s race at Talladega were up 35% over the same race last year.

Also, we shold understand that ticket sales are a “drop in the ocean” for the NFL. Their ^real^ money comes from TV contracts and advertising.

That is why the owners don’t care about the fans.

Similarly I never understood the protests against some beverage a few years ago (absolut vodka perhaps?) where people dumped their vodka. You already paid - go ahead and drink it - protest by not buying a new bottle.

Boycott advertisers, too. Just looking at the pictures of some of these players posted on this thread gives me the creeps.

I wrote this earlier, but it's worth repeating/getting feedback on: what is the end-game of the boycott?

We can look at The Packers' financial statements to get a sense for where the money goes. The Packers pulled in $441MM (million ) in revenue, while expenses rose to $371MM resulting in Net Income of $73MM. Of those expenses, about $156MM come from players.

So, if revenues decline, does anyone really think they'll take it out on the players? Most of them are under contract, so in the short-run they won't feel the pinch.

I'm not saying the boycott shouldn't continue. The essence of the boycott is "if you all support Kaepernick taking a knee because he hates the police, when we'll ignore you." Thus, the boycott has a noble underpinning.

More importantly, anything that results in strengthening of the family and fathers and mothers spending more time with children and less time on panem et circenses is a net positive for society.

But, net-net-net, if revenues decline, the cuts will come in the middle offices and trickled down to concessions employees, parking attendants, etc. The players that many people seem to abhor, will largely remain unimpacted (aside from some loss of endorsements etc.) ESPECIALLY IF THIS IS A TEMPORAL DIP IN VIEWERSHIP.

TV money gonna disappear.....
Endorsement money gonna disappear.....
Sponsor money gonna disappear......
Hot Chicks gonna disappear......

And these dumb focking athletes who be thinking they is millionaires will find out that their burn rate is way too high......Flash cars, overpriced McMansions, gold jewelry,a big posse and tons of dope and Crystal....one unemployed year and they will be on the street.

They will end up like every other stereotypical, ignorant millionaire athlete.....Broke..... and they will be on their knees praying for handouts.

Actually the cuts will hit the players. The cap is pinned to a percentage of revenue, if revenue drops the cap drops and player salaries will have to adjust. Which could be really fun since the cap has never gone anywhere but up. Lots of intense renegotiation could happen early next year.

I used to go to games with my Dad. He would buy a program and keep score. We’d talk about strategy, about the previous play, anything about the game. Nowadays, every “lull” in the action is a reason for the music to blare, the videos to run on the jumbotron and whatever other mindless attention grabber they can think of. You have to yell to the person next to you to be heard. They’ve made it difficult for a father to help his child to learn the game.

Yep I’ve notice that too, how there are so many distractions at games nowadays. Loud music, video blasting ads and other nonsense. Just give us the game, and that will make us happy.

Whoever believe this is a moron. People buy stuff at games and pay parking costs just to mention a few problems; but biggest one is the empty seats make for terrible optics.
