Has Trump Made Approval Polls Meaningless? (media stomps its feet)

The stock market keeps breaking records, and the latest gross domestic product data show that the real economy is roaring, too. The tax cut bill—despite being about as popular as North Korea—moved significantly closer to Senate passage on Wednesday, as Republican senators on the fence swallowed their doubts and voted to move it to the floor for a Thursday vote. This same tax bill will do much to gut the same Affordable Care Act that was “saved” a few months ago by three defecting Republicans. Another Trump nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals was confirmed by the Senate, meaning that Trump will have placed nine of his nominees on federal appeals courts, three time as many as Obama had placed at this point in his presidency. A federal district court has allowed Trump to place his budget director as temporary head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; the same budget director, who as a congressman, called the agency “a sad, sick joke.” Across the executive branch, industry lobbyists have been placed in charge of everything from drug pricing to environmental policy, while some of the sharpest critics of decades’ worth of trade and immigration policies are now in charge. And in Alabama, Trump’s preferred choice for the Senate, former Judge Roy Moore, has opened up a significant lead over Doug Jones in the days after highly credible accounts of sexual misconduct with teenage girls.

All of this—and much, much more—is happening under a president who, month after month, earns the lowest job-approval ratings of any first-year president, and whose policies—from taxes to health care to immigration to the environment—are rejected by thumping majorities of Americans.

How is this possible?

No, you jackasses in the media made approval polls meaningless because you fake those polls like you do everything else.

No, media skewing polls to get the results they wanted is what made them meaningless.

Yummy tears:
“He is where he is because roughly 80,000 votes in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania—about 1/30th of 1 percent of total votes cast—gave him his Electoral College margin. “

Well of course he has! Just as he made your faked-up manufactured election polls obsolete you dummies. You use polls to influence voter behavior, Trump uses Twitter to take his message directly to 50 million voters.

They don’t need to fake the polls. Decent people usually hang up on pollsters these days, so it’s mostly the welfare class and social justice activists who bother responding.

Because poll can no longer be trusted. They have been “weaponized”, a tool to create public opinion not measure it.

Polling companies have followed the media in choosing sides and now they are paying the price.

The drive-bys expect Trump to govern according to fake approval polls. He didn’t take the bait. Thank God.

The left is totally grasping at straws... That is factually correct, but merely a meaningless statistic, useless in any debate outside a bar. Karma in this case is truly delicious.

The reason why we elect representatives is not to be ruled by the whims of the masses of asses. Especially when the leftist propaganda media controls the narrative and whips those asses into a frenzy.

Anyone as badly misled by the poll numbers they read in '16 as the author apparently is really has no business clinging to them now. Learn or lose.

For one thing, the recitation of the usual litany of fervent progressive beliefs that the election was tainted by the Russians and lost in the general count probably isn't going to listen to advice anyway, but here goes. They boil down to a single principle: stop putting your faith in fantasy and you won't be disappointed.

The citation of Roy Moore is almost laughable - could it be that the voters don't care about the hate avalanche from the media because they don't trust the media anymore? Could it be that media manipulation is failing repeatedly and they're the last to know? Could it be that Trump isn't really that unpopular after all, and that the turnaround by GOPe stalwarts is due to pressure from their own voters who are tired of the slow walk and the foot dragging? Could it be that the outrage at Trump's robust communications is as phony as a Hollywood prom virgin? Could it be that all of the arguments that the author finds so persuasive aren't really very impressive after all?

Could be. This, for example:

The stories about Trump reaching “a new low” or “rebounding” look more like rounding errors than any meaningful movement, or the usual variation between different pollsters.

It's a clue. You don't look for numbers if you're a professional, you look for trends, and there isn't one. After a year-long, intense media hate campaign the like of which hasn't been seen since the last World War, nobody is turning. An intelligent human being begins to question fundamental premises at this point, an ideologue and a fool bewails, "what's happening? Why isn't it working?" and never questions those premises. Too bad.

Wow - the comments section at the article is a hoot.

Most of those folks have a severe case of TDS. Trump is living in those demented minds rent-free, 24/7.

The same polls that assured us Trump had “no path to victory”. Wrong then, wrong now.
