Gillette Video Tells Men With ‘Toxic Masculinity’ to ‘Say the Right Thing,' 'Act the Right Way’

A short film by Gillette, a manufacturer of men’s shaving products, tells men to shun “toxic masculinity” and “the same old excuses” for male behavior.

The film, “We believe: The Best Men Can Be,” posted on the company’s Facebook page, begins by referencing Gillette’s slogan, “The best a man can get,” while invoking the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment:

“Bullying. The ‘Me, Too’ movement against sexual harassment. Toxic masculinity – is the best a man can get? Is it?

“We can’t hide from it. It’s been going on far too long. We can’t laugh it off. Making the same old excuses: ‘Boys will be boys.’”

The video displays text of three, presumably male,” comments:

“Everybody hates you,” “You’re such a loser” and “Sissy.”

Enough is enough, Gillette declares, calling men to speak and act “The right way”:

But, something finally changed. And there will be no going back.”

….

“To say the right thing; to act the right way.

“Some already are. In ways big and small. But, some is not enough. Because the boys watching today will be the men of tomorrow.”

Clueless:

-------------------------------------------

Explanation for old folks like me:

"My Wife's Son" is a self-deprecative term of address used by anonymous users on 4chan to poke fun at politically liberal or regressive leftist beta males as being cuckolds by implying that their significant others have had extramarital relationships.

Gillette used to have the “Best a Man Can Get” commercials that celebrated what it means to be a man. I guess now they are going for the transgender / wimpified male target market.

Are you using the Feather brand from Japan? They’re supposed to be wicked sharp.

What the heck kind of bipolar nutball world are we living in!

First they do what I thought was a masterpiece commercial with the one handed football player (Including highlighting how important a Dad is to sons), then they follow it up with this crap.

The football player got to me so good I was actually thinking about buying some of their products. Glad I didn't hurry.

First rule of advertising: never hand your target market a reason not to buy your products.

Did some digging:

1. You go up on their website to send an email, and a pop-under screen gives you their new manifesto against manhood. It’s worse than you think - part of what they make in the purchase price is being donated to organizations that are anti-male. $1M per year.

2. Don’t send email through their site, they’ll collect the information and use it against you.

3. They are a Proctor and Gamble brand. You can figure out who is managing the brand by going up on LinkedIn.

4. They have a male model on their Contact Us page that is just creepy. There is no way the guy on that page has ever used a shaver. Ever. It’s so much worse than that. I have my own impression. I’d be interested in hearing your perspective on that image to see if I’m nuts.

Conclusion - Gillette not only is advertising in order to change their main consumer from someone who on balance is fine like they are but needs a shave to someone who is fundamentally inferior to women, and in someways harmful. Worse, they are going to spend the money you just gave them to work against your own best interests.

I remember when P&G hired former junior officers to manage their brands. What the f*** happened over there?

Same here. Yellow Bic. In the Shower. Bar soap prep.

And my barber laughs at my sideburns every time.

Hit ‘em with their own weapons -
contact them to tell them their ad is sexist, offensive and insulting and that Gillette needs to apologize. Spread the word. Have every guy you know do the same - let’s make a corporate head roll for this. They got 1-800 numbers!
And be sure to stress “offensive ad”.

This is an ENORMOUS opportunity for Harry’s Razors. I don’t own one yet, but I will tonight.

This is the most brazen and idiotic move by a company that I’ve seen in a long time.

Can you imagine if they had a campaign similar to this one targeting women?

“Family should come first. We here at Gillette feel so strongly that women could do much better at sticking it out in marriages where divorce may impact the kids. Over the coming year, we’ll be donating $1M to non-profits offering marriage counselling services to young families. . .”

You would not hear the end of it. Every monkey in the cage would be flinging so much dung that it would blot the sun. The mothers of the CEO and Board of P&G would be deported to Upper Volta to shuck pistachios with their bare hands for 18 hour shifts.

How. dare. they.
