Need easy method/hardware for hanging flag out apartment windows (e.g., mounted on casement?)
Sept. 10, 2022 | Silly

Hi, friends:

I want to mount flags out of my apartment windows, on horizontal or diagonal poles, perpendicular to the wall exterior.

Can you suggest no-drill hardware or clamps that allow me to attached these to the upper part of the casement, so I can lower the upper part of the window to properly adjust and maintain the flags?

I rent, and want to make this relatively uncomplicated, seasonal, and remove the hardware if I vacate one day.

The landlord and neighbors will not be an issue. I just want a simple way to fly our beautiful flag out a few windows, for the enjoyment of seeing it when I look out into the sunshine. It would really brighten the appearance of my windows and apartment.

Product / bracket / hardware links would be appreciated! Thank you!

Sincere and still...

Silly

Check online, maybe Amazon, for Command/3M products. They have items for every purpose. Some are very strong and should be able to be removed without damage.

It’s strange, I’ve been Googling and this is not an easy question for me to answer. I’m getting stuck, but I bet there are obvious solutions I am missing.

I also respect the flag, and will take care to follow protocols for keeping them clean, well-maintained, and properly displayed.

Nevermind. You said outside. Still look, they might have outside products, too.

Thanks, I’ve been looking, and it’s hard to find no-drill, clamping hardware that can work.

I also do not want to cover the window with the flag (like a drapery).

Right angle flat stock bends to match casement frame, with round piece of pipe stock welded to that. Drilled and tapped hole to thread a set screw 1/4X20 to lock in pole in case of windy conditions. IMHO as a fab-aholic for everything. I even made my own treadmill at work using old conveyor and a Baldor 2 horse 56C and a 40:1 Boston gearbox with a VFD.

Time, brains, scrap, and arc, can build anything.

Describe the frame around the window, both inside and outside. Is there a ledge below the window? Is there framing that “sits proud” around the window?

Can you hang the flag vertically (with the blue field in upper LEFT corner, of course)?.

DO you have pictures? I’m looking for ready-made hardware what can be clamped on.

No, not vertically — a pole that is horizontal or diagonal; and, extended perpendicular to the building exterior wall.

Thank you... What I’d like is a way to clamp what you have illustrated to a window casement, without drilling.

Look up “balcony railing flag holder” on Amazon. Or might lead you to window frame type holder as well.

Perhaps something like this... Where the clamp attaches to the top of the upper window casement...

Yes, that is putting me in the right direction... Not 100%, but helpful in getting there. Thank you.

Make a 3D printed block or out of wood with a hole at the desired angle for the flag pole. Clamp it to the inside of the window frame using a length of threaded rod that spans the width of the window. The threaded rod will push the block against the window frame by making it push from the opposite side of the window.
