.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

The Bridge
Across a hundred sunsets
Beyond your wildest dreams
A bridge awaits your footsteps
To places you've not seen
You've sensed it in the midnight
In starlight's silvery glow
The soft touch of a memory
From very long ago
A distant song caresses
A heart so full of sighs
The weight of all your sorrow
Is lifted for a while
The crickets keep the rhythm
A gentle thought remains
Your innocence remembers
A time before the pain
Keep faith and you will see it
This place at journey's end
A paradise He's made for you
You'll cross that bridge with Him

Youth is like spring, an over-praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes.
Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.

Evenin' Amy. T'was a grand day of Veteran's related stuff. I'm filled to the brim with pride and gratitude to all who have served our country. Tears flowed as I heard the words, "Thank You for your service" and "Welcome Home"
Only one thing will be better - to hear my Saviour say, "Welcome Home."

CROSSING BRIDGES
I walked this road in dreams of youth
some were lost and some were truth
some took wings and flew away
and some are where I am today
the road is long so full of miles
with changing people changing styles
and all those people pass me by
without an answer, no reply
there were regrets but then I knew
that roads get crooked change the view
and burning bridges were left behind
crossing ridges in my mind
then one day when youth was lost
I found another bridge to cross
you came along gave me a ride
and loved me on the other side.

Good Morning, Dave!!! How about another post for our veterans?

The Photograph
Author: Shiloh
I couldn't help myself,-
couldn't take my eyes off her.
She was a very pretty girl,
blonde hair falling softly over her shoulders,
blue-green eyes, beautiful smile...
about sixteen, and very much a young woman.
She was having her picture taken with her father.
Her mother stood with the camera,
telling her daughter to move back a bit more,
focusing the lens,
then she said,
"All right now, hold Daddy."
The pretty girl's smile grew a bit tighter,
her manner turned a bit more sober,
as she turned to be sure where her dad was.
Trembling slightly, she slowly raised her hand,
her index finger extended,
and touched her father's name
where it was engraved in The Wall.
(It was the last picture she would have
of her and her dad together.
The only other one she had
was taken when she was eighteen months old.
He was holding her, one last time,
just before he left for Vietnam.
He was a Navy pilot,
and he had been shot down over Hanoi.
That's all she knew about him.)
After her mother took the picture
the girl turned her face to The Wall,
cradled her head in her arms against it,
and she cried... quietly,
alone with her thoughts.
Her tears flowed down her grown-up, little-girl cheeks,
onto the polished stone of The Wall,
and onto the walk at the base;
the purest of offerings
for the memory of the father she never knew.
She was sixteen,
and in most ways a grown woman,
but at that moment she was the little girl
who needed, so desperately,
to be held and comforted in the arms of her daddy.
She'd grown up needing him.
and she would always need him.
And she would never, ever,
be held by him again.

Thanks Amy.
Even without the graphic, the image is very clear except for the 'fuzziness' I'm experiencing with my monitor.

Forever Friend
Sometimes in life, you find a special friend; Someone who changes your life by being a part of it; Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop;
Someone who makes you believe that there is really good in this world; Someone who convinces you that there is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. This is Forever Friendship.
When you're down, and the world seems dark and empty, your Forever Friend lifts you up in spirit and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full.
Your Forever Friend gets you through the hard times, the sad times, and the confused times.
If you turn and walk away your Forever Friend follows.
If you lose your way, your Forever Friend guides you and cheers you on.
Your Forever Friend holds your hand and tells you that everything is going to be a-okay. And when you find such a Friend, you'll feel happy and complete, because you need not worry. You Have A "Forever Friend" For Life And Forever Has No End.

Thank you for bringing your beautiful poetry to Poetry and Potpourri.
I did not get a chance to thank you for yesterday's poem. So I would like to tell you now how much your talent is appreciated.
We always look forward to your next post.
