In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

amatory \ah*meh*tow*ree\, adjective:
amatorious; adjective
amatoriously; adverb
amatoriousness; noun

1. Pertaining to, producing, or expressing, sexual love; as, amatory potions. [Obs.]
2. Expressive of or exciting sexual love or romance

The Autumnal Recrudescence of the Amatory Urge

When the birds are cacaphonic in the trees and on the verge
Of the fields in mid-October when the cold is like a scourge.
It is not delight in winter that makes feathered voices surge,
But autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.

When the frost is on the punkin' and when leaf and branch diverge,
Birds with hormones reawakened sing a paean, not a dirge.
What's the reason for their warbling? Why on earth this late-year splurge?
The autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.

--Susan Stiles, copyright December 1973

Etymology [Latin am t rius, from am tor, lover. See amateur.]

Late last winter when we were finishing up the house, I forgot to check the level of the propane tank. It only got up to 28 degrees for a high that day, so I turned on the furnaces so we could stay reasonably comfortable while working. I realized right away what was wrong when the furnaces would not come on-we froze our asses off all day. I have not forgotten to check that tank since.

The inconsiderate assh*** with the unmuffled airboat was running upriver again this morning at full throttle at 5:45. I got up from the kitchen table, turned on the floodlights on the deck, and went out there and yelled that phrase at him, adding the f-word. Of course he couldn't hear me over the deafening roar of the aircraft propeller and engine that power the thing. I've had conversations with several neighbors on ways to remove that noisy, (and illegal) nuisance from the water, since the game warden doesn't seem inclined to ticket it. The thing can be heard coming from at least five miles away-one neighbor said the first time her kids were awakened by it, they thought a plane was about to crash into the house.

Our house in the city is right in the flight pattern of Lackland AFB, so I was totally used to hearing those planes go over at all hours for well over 20 years. After 9-11, they grounded all the C-5's and other planes at all the bases-the silence was really eerie.

Terrific, Doc! Hockey's even more fun to play than it is to watch, but maybe not at our age...

:^)

I've seen some eye injuries lately, they give me the willies. And tell the damn goalie to stay in the crease!

Maybe the first string goalie will be well enough to play soon.
