A few of us were thinking of starting an on-going FReeper diet and fitness thread. It would be a place where we could discuss weight loss, diet, exercise, getting back in shape, encourage each other in our efforts to get healthy, and celebrate our successes.
Any fitness or activity level. 100+ pounds to lose or no weight to lose. Those who have lost weight and kept it off, please share with us what has worked for you. Maybe you love a certain activity, biking, skiing, rock climbing, walking, running, whatever, tell us about how it helps you stay in shape. Share your weight loss success. Just a place to exchange ideas about all things exercise and diet related.
Don't be shy! As Freepers we spend a whole bunch of time in front of our computers and more then a few of us could do with some exercise and probably a little weight loss.
NO VERBAL ATTACKS! NO NAME CALLING! NO BASHING! THE OVERWEIGHT! NO NASTY PICTURES POSTED! This will be a thread about getting healthy and no attacks will be tolerated.
If that were true, I might reconsider.
Sure, come on over, I can show you how to eat chocolate and that stuff. Seems to put the weight on really well.
We love the South Beach Diet. It really works, lowers your cholesterol too, and it makes sense. It's hard at first and then you get used to it. A heart doctor wrote it, the intro is very interesting -- his observations with his own patients, etc.
I'll join the thread!
I've been on the Weight Watchers Core program for 5 weeks. So far I've lost 7.4 lbs. I wish it was faster, but I'll take it. I just started exercising a couple of weeks ago. I'm up to 4 days a week: 2 days at the rec center on the elliptical, 2 days working out with videos/dvds. I feel great and am eating a lot healthier foods. I hope to lose a total of 40 lbs.
LOL - always.
That worked. I'm not hungry anymore.
It really is that simple.
I was on Jenny Craig for 4 months.. Lost 50 pounds.. That was two years ago.. Since then I have maintained my weight since I have reached my goal. I workout 2 to 3 times a week.

Hi there, retrokitten. This is a great thread and I'll check in later.
For what it's worth, I've always had the philosophy that if we weigh ourselves and make sure we never get outside our 5 lb. goal weight, we'll be okay. Although I've been battling those same 5 lbs. for 2 years now. LOL
Anyway, I've been doing pilates for a few months and although I can't say it's a great weight loss program, it does help tighten up what you have.
That's because mine got to the donuts first!
Sure you can ping me, I got to get off my fat butt and do something again.
I vote we allow cotton1706 to stick around on this thread.
We are all going to need someone to insult as this thing goes along.
If you start a ping list for this thread, I'd like to be included.
It's a subject I've been interested in most of my adult life, which is getting on now.
I'm lucky in that I'm not prone to putting on too much extra weight in the first place, but I've still put a fair amount of effort over my life into staying fit and in shape, as well as losing weight.
Unfortunately, I've just found out that as long as I don't drink (pretty much), I can eat without much regard to what, which means I don't have to exercise. 'Course, I make it a point to not eat when I'm not hungry, which is IMO one of the keys. But laying off drink (except for special occasions) caused me to inadvertently lose 8 pounds. I figure if I start jogging and weight lifting, it'll be all to the good.
I'm not that upset. That's what I get for posting a weight related thread on a Friday. LOL!
Try malted milkshakes. Until I turned 42, I was underweight but I've been told malted milkshakes are great for putting on weight. They're given to cancer patients who have lost a great deal of weight.
I think it's a great idea! We could all use encouragement in that area. I'm finding it much harder to maintain my weight as I get older. Any tips would be much appreciated! :)
I vote we allow cotton1706 to stick around on this thread.

Ha ha. Have at it!!!
