Someone please define "center of the Universe." Where, exactly, is that?

Tulsa, Oklahoma. No, I'm sorry, that's the Cultural Center of the Universe.

Actually, it depends on who you are. If you are under the age of five, or a Democrat, the center of the universe is yourself.

Hopefully, it will make the Islamonazis implode their facade of a religion.

Not likely, they already pray around a meteorite that fell in the desert.

"Someone please define "center of the Universe." Where, exactly, is that?"

When I was in High School back in the 70s a number of us in my physics class (we'll actually we were cutting class that day and riding around in an old Dodge van) had a deep deep discusion on precisely where the center of the Universe was.

After many hours of discusion (and much beer consumed) we reached the unanimous conclusion that the center was somwhere near Farrah's err... ahh... right breast.

See picture:

I think there may be something to this considering this headline I read.

Son plays soccer - cannot be the center of anything with that game.

My son plays baseball and soccer and has all the other qualifications as well so my son is the center.

"If my memory serves me right [and it sometimes does not!],wasn't there a signal received in the 50's-60's-70's [I don't remember the date] from the area of Beatleguse [a dying red giant star, about to go supernova] that the signal said something like "we are moving from the second star to the 3rd". We never could follow up on that signal, by then the star enveloped the 3rd planet."

I seriously doubt we could decipher anything we received.

Washington, DC. Or Mecca. Depends on your political affiliation, I guess.

Sounds like another Tower of Babel. If they've been able to define the "boundaries" of the universe [so that they know what the "center" is, then somebody's got a pretty tall tower that gives them a good "comet's eye" view :) ]

OUR GALACTIC COUNCIL JUST RECIEVED AND VIEWED YOUR FIRST FULL SEASON OF THREE'S COMPANY. OUR VERDICT IS UNANIMOUS. YOUR SPECIES IS TOO STUPID TO BE ALLOWED TO LIVE ANY LONGER. YOU WILL HAVE A CHUNK OF ANTIMATTER DISGUISED AS A FRUITCAKE DROPPED ON YOUR PLANET'S SURFACE. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Why? Where do you think Jesus is suppose to come from? Or where do you think Satan was cast down to? What about the signs in the heavens to look towards?

It's right here. And over there. In fact, there is no "center" so every point in the universe is as qualified as any other to be the "center".

That makes this story hogwash.

SETI discovered this message two years ago and just recently completed deciphering and translating it. It was discovered that there were two "voices" on the transmission and it was translated as follow:

(begin transmission)

Voice #1: So, in order to meet our food needs for the next 100 years we will have to go to the life bearing planets we have discovered and begin harvesting the carbon based lifeforms on it..

Voice #2: Hey Bob, your mic is still on.

Voice #1: Aw crap..

(end transmission)

They're already back-tracking... saying the "major" announcement is something mundane and nothing to do with discovering any signal.
