UFO sightings published by MoD

A rotating silver pyramid, a "metallic spinning object" with green engines and a "mother ship with two smaller orbs" were among the bizarre UFO sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence last year.

The ministry has published details of 97 reports of unidentified flying objects in 2006, opening a treasure trove of potential information to those who believe we are not alone.

It has also published details of reported sightings going back to 1998, showing there have been scores each year.

Previously, details of classified reports were kept secret for 30 years.

Discs, orbs, cigars and pencils have all been spotted buzzing around the sky in odd movements.

One of the most startling encounters - one might even say of the Third Kind - was when an alien apparently popped its head around a couple's kitchen window in Hastings, East Sussex.

The MoD's log dutifully reported: "Two witnesses thought that they saw an alien outside their kitchen window."

Tyne & Wear appears to have been kept under surveillance by extra-terrestrials for two weeks last October.

On Oct 14 a resident in Sunderland reported spotting "a silver pyramid that was rotating at a low speed and off centre."

Two weeks later "a black triangular UFO was seen, with three lights on it" hovering above nearby Hetton-Le-Hole.

Barlaston in Staffordshire was haunted for a week by a "mother ship and two smaller orbs", one white and one orange.

And Eastleigh Cotswolds in Hampshire experienced a "metallic spinning object that had heat sources showing green".

Almost all the sightings can be explained, according to Robert Rosamond, chairman of the British UFO Research Association (Bufora).

Many are helicopters or other human-designed craft like weather balloons and satellites, while others are optical illusions and unusual cloud formations.

But a handful are of genuine interest, he said.

"Around 98 per cent of cases can be explained. The remaining two per cent keep us fascinated," he enthused.

There were also an unusually high number of sightings around Guy Fawkes' Night and New Year's Eve, when fireworks light up the sky.

A spotter from Maidstone, Kent, rang in on Dec 31 with the rather unreliable message that there were "UFO, lights - so many different ones".

The MoD published the details after a Freedom of Information Act request, a spokesman said.

She said the ministry did not investigate each and every report.

"We only investigate if there have been any objects in British air space that may be military," she explained.

"Unless there's evidence of a potential threat we don't investigate to try to identify it."

A spokesman from the Civil Aviation Authority refused to be drawn on the report. "We don't have any involvement with UFOs," she said.

Yeah. You ought to see the awesome gadget we have to make sure no clear photograph of our spaceship is ever taken. If a photo is taken, it always manages to be blurry or to look like whatever alien movie is popular at the time. We shared our technology with bigfoot and the loch ness monster as well.

As Freud would say, sometimes a disc, orb, cigar, or pencil is just a disc, orb, cigar, or pencil. Of course, it it's just shaped like one of those, and flying... :')

All the ufos that were described in the late 70’s and 80’s looked like the stealth aircraft of the 80’s and 90’s... Im sure in less than a decade some new fangled Air force jet will look like what people are seeing.
