Gays and the Bionic Woman? Love her!
Gays and Isaiah Washington? Not so much.
What's a thoroughly postmodern gay to do when one of the iconic heroines of '70s television is relaunched on a network that eagerly embraces an actor who gets dumped from his hit show on another network after proving himself all too comfortable with a certain homophobic slur?
Okay, fine, maybe you don't get the Bionic Woman idolization. Maybe you've never been on the receiving end of the "f" slur. (What are you, one of those nine out of 10 people who "scientific research" suggests isn't gay?) But unless you'd rather be contemplating lesser, tawdrier issues -- say, the public-restroom dating habits of a certain Republican senator -- stick with us here.
NBC's new "Bionic Woman" series, premiering Sept. 26, was not without a certain amount of audience anxiety before Isaiah Washington even came into the picture.
Emotional connections to characters like the Bionic Woman can run deep for countless gay viewers who see isolation and repression reflected in heroes who must harbor secret identities and who can't show off their fabulousness in their everyday lives.
Take, for example, a misfit child in 1970s Anytown, U.S.A., who doesn't even have a name for his difference -- homosexuality -- but is deluged with cultural cues that whatever his true nature is, it's wrong. The Bionic Woman, Jaime Sommers, was a bright spot in dark times: She could protect you; she knew what it was like to not fit in; she could pull off a velour tracksuit.

This has been trashed so many times. More like 98-99% are not.
If gay is a birth thing, why do some leave the lifestyle behind? Can a black man stop being black (other than Michael Jackson) (and my term man, was a generalization of mankind not gender, nobody is sure what MJ is)?
Maybe a person really isn't born gay, but because of upbringing or choices he chooses the lifestyle.
How do we know if a person can be born gay? Who are the scientists who determine this? Are they gay, creating false studies to legitimize their lifestyles? Are they straight, with friends or family who are gay, and once again trying to create legitimacy for friends and family?
IF being gay is genetic, does everybody living the lifestyle have the gay genes? Is it possible that someone with the gay genes, not live the lifestyle, and not know that they are, or are supposed to be gay?
If gayness is a genetic thing, where 1-2% have it, this would classify it as a disorder. Would the pro-abortion people be willing to abort gay babies, the same as they might want to abort Downes babies?

We’re not gonna take it! Get over yourselves. You will be forever assigned to the rickety card table at reunions and family functions because we don’t trust you at the kiddie table. Enjoy your little foray into entertainment media while watching everything you endorse suffer just because you attached the stigma of your psychological disorder to it. Pity the poor heterosexual actors and crew who go prematurely unemployed thanks to your damaging reviews.
Why don’t you people apply your “talents” toward truly useful work like helping old housewives pick home improvements, providing snide remarks in restaurants or folding sweaters at the yuppie stores?
Sign me up as a lesbian. I was a fan when it was on - can’t remember a single plot, but I do remember the running, jumping and such.

I heard Catherine Zeta-Jones was planned, but in today’s hollywood, they’d probably think she was too old.

Now I’m really worried. I found the new Battlestar unwatchable. And, yes, I know, the old one was cheesy and all that, but I want the old cylons. It just ain’t BG without ‘em. I probably wouldn’t have minded the new show if they’d called it something else. Almost EVERY damned ‘remake’ they do any more has NOTHING to do with the original other than the title.
The thing I always liked about Linda was that her “special purpose” was about 2” wide. When she put her hands on her hips and faced down the bad guys with her hands on her hips, you could see the sunrise in San Diego.
A great show and a great actress.
Honestly, I don’t even know whaat you are talking about. Was that the episode where Linda was highlighted by the setting sun and had to bend over, repeatedly, to pick up her golden rope?
