This video is about a true story that happened in the late 60’s. My wife and I were visiting a small town called Chepachet R.I on Tanyard Lane. The song of the video is, I Saw The Light sung by Hank Williams, Sr..

I sung this song so long in church, I remember being shocked it was written by Hank Sr.

A lot of folks are amazed that ‘I Saw The Light’ was written by a person considered in his day to be one of the most raucous and rowdy honky-tonkers of all time, Hank Sr.

If you’ve never seen a movie called ‘Hank Williams - The Show He Never Gave’, starring the Canadian singer Sneezy Waters (who looks like, acts like and sings like Hank Sr), it is worth hunting down, the plot of the movie is Hank’s last night on Earth and he’s in the back of his Cadillac wishing he was performing for a small town crowd in some little tavern along the highway, and his mind takes him (and the viewer) to that place, the recreation of places and people circa 1952 is amazing, and he performs a rendition of ‘I Saw The Light’ that is just spell binding.

I can’t say enough about it, but if you like the song, and especially if you like Hank Sr., go get it!

Have a great week!

Thanks! And I will check it out.

Being from Georgia, and a father that is a bluegrass/gospel/country musician... yes, this is something I can relate to and enjoy!

Oh yeah, with both grandfather’s Holiness preachers, that’s another reason. hehe

You'd be surprised to know, even today, how many C&W singers have a granddad who was a Holiness preacher. Many of them have strong Bible roots.

Yes and to me the song shows that great things are accomplished by people that make mistakes and that are not perfect. I tell others, when they say to me you did wrong, I am not perfect but forgiven. Thanks for commenting.

Having retired from radio broadcasting a long time ago, I can still recall how it used to be considered 'standard recording behavior' for ANY country artist recording an album to include at least one gospel or gospel-flavored song on the release, I can't say that Acuff-Rose came up with the practice, but I know that they seemed to adhere to it pretty consistently.

For a real heartwarming experience, locate a copy of Ricky Skaggs covering Bill Monroe's classic 'Mother's Not Dead, She's Only Sleeping', if it doesn't move you, there's nothing left to move ;)
