THE FACE OF EVIL (I'm still shaking)

Posted on 11/01/2008 9:46:44 PM PDT by MrChips

I am still recovering. Tonight I was invited to a party at the home of some friends. Nice people there, for the most part. Lots of food, wine, beer. Former students of mine, now in college, were there. All very nice. A fun social gathering. A mildly liberal crowd with a few conservative Republicans sprinkled in. We were all avoiding talking politics, anyway. But then, rather late, just as I was preparing to leave, some guy across the room slandered Sarah Palin. I responded with a very mild, friendly, "I rather like Sarah." That's all I said. Suddenly I was the target of the most vitriolic tirade out of someone's mouth you have ever heard. The guy went on and on about how evil I was because I was a Republican, how they had ruined the planet, how I was a piece of S@#t, a lowly scum, a jerk, etc. and other such languge. He got bery personally insulting. I was in shock, saying very little, trying to weigh his ignorance, trying to remain civil in a public setting, someone else's home. A few "I'm sorry that you feel that way" as I hobbled my way on crutches (I was injured recently) into the next room to say my farewells to my hosts. But I was deeply offended. And yet, it was more like I was in shock, having been accosted by the devil, himself. It was like I needed an exorcist in the room. I half expected the man's head to start spinning around and hurling green vomit. In short. It was frightening. Truly. And it is hard to understand how some people can be so utterly full of hate and venim. Then it occurred to me: this is what we are up against. Pure, mindless hatred. Do I dare call it evil?

Ignorance is curable, Stupidity is fatal.

You were much more civil than I would have been.

Timing is everything, but that wasn't the time or the place. That fellow will look smaller and smaller as everyone there reflects on his boorish behavior.

If that isn't the case, I would recommend expanding your social circle to include people with intelligence and common sense. A little human decency wouldn't hurt either.

Yes these are the peaceful, inclusive, tolerant, sensitive and diversity loving marxists that want to run (or is it ruin) our lives for the next four years.

Sorry this happened to you. We had a somewhat similar experience but in a different venue.

We live in an upper middle class neighborhood. Very nice, well kept homes all on 1/4 acre lots. We have a neighborhood park (5 acres) that is basically woods and some mowed lawn. Two young families one block over wanted the city to install a big toy in the park for a price tag of $50,000.

We argued that the demographics of the neighborhood was of older people, very few young children. We felt that families had the room and the financial means (because of where they were already living) to have a swing set in their large back yard for their children.

We also felt that the food bank that was being forced out of their building could use the money or a low income apartment building could use the big toy for their children. Well, we were called every name in the book. We were called child haters, that we were sc**wing little children, we were selfish and uncaring. At one community meeting a man in favor of the big toy turned and said to our side that we should move over for the young people and their needs because we were going to die soon anyways. People were visibly taken aback. It was especially troubling as some were battling life threatening illnesses. One older gentleman, a decorated veteran who had the misfortune of living on the same street as the ones wanting the big toy was so tormented that he talked of putting his house up for sale. He said he and his wife were afraid to even go outside.

If you saw this neighborhood, you would probably find it hard to believe that such hatred would exist over something to trivial. It divided our neighborhood. In the end they got their big toy and hardly a child plays on it. I know because I live near it. My experience is the left are mean and nasty if you have an opinion that differs.

I think liberals are so rabidly emotional about politics precisely because they usually are not religious people.

Politics has taken the place of their religion. They are fanatic about it because they are desperately pretending there isn’t a great big hole in their souls.

They seem obsessed with getting everyone around them to think just as they do. A two-bit psychologist would probably say they are profoundly insecure. I believe that insecurity is caused by the subconscious knowledge they’ve rejected God.

Liberals are often the rudest people in the room. Conservatives are usually polite to a fault.

Well, if it will make you feel better, I would have happily walked across the room and knocked his teeth down his throat for you had I been there. We don’t need to take this crap!

"Do I dare call it evil?"

Please do...we need more of that, for that is what it is.

I'm so very sorry you endured such uncouth and rude behaviour.

The must be an epidemic of PDS.
You'd think they felt threatened, or something. ;o)

...."I'm sorry that you feel that way" ...

This answer was too polite for that person.  You still can be polite by using some quotes while killing him with your intellectual superiority in front of the others.

Here are some:

I will permit no man to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him.  ~Booker T. Washington
Hating people is like burning down your own house to get rid of a rat.  ~Henry Emerson Fosdick
Hate cages all the good things about you.  ~Madrianne Arvore

The price of hating other human beings is loving oneself less.  ~Eldridge Cleaver, Soul on Ice, 1968

If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself.  What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us.  ~Herman Hesse
You lose a lot of time, hating people.  ~Marian Anderson

There's a school of thought which holds that insanity is the very nature of evil.

Scott Peck talked about the "malignant narcissism" of evil in his book People of the Lie," and I believe that was present in the few people I have known whom I considered to be truly evil. These people did not routinely throw fits of anger. That would have diminished their ability to get close enough to others to do real harm. Instead they were intelligent and superficially plausible.

It is useless to debate someone who believes everything you believe is evil. You voice will be drowned out by the shouts of blind hatred and ad hominen attacks.

Hehe...you are my new hero! I do the same thing in my Fortune 500 bank co. where I question every single ethnic/gender centric baloney group promotion that shows up in my email. I maintain my vigilance in creating the first ever “if you think you are special because of how you were (or think you were) born then you suck” corporate group.

A few things...first, I live in (downstate) Illinois, so will vote, for no apparent reason. The outcome here is pretty much a done deal. But I had a conversation with a young man tonight, originally from NY state. A Marine. He was out of place........he asked if I’d volunteered for the GOP get out the vote.....that’s when I realized I HAD NOT done my part!!!
A great kid from NY in my little town in central illinois, doing the work that I WOULD’NT DO.........I don’t think so!!! This kid saw the towers fall in New York. I was ashamed that I hadn’t done more. I WILL be at the GOP Headquarters next week, finding out what they need for manpower....it really is meanigless here in Illinois, given the Chicago Machine........but I do not care! They cannot take MY vote away........or that of my many like-minded friends who vote LEGALLY. This kid I met tonight MADE MY DAY.........a true Patriot. God Bless You, Louis.

Amigo - Stand up to these chumps. If you are on crutches then that will only make it more impressionable when you walk away from the mouthy punk laying in a quivering pile of “ow it hurts”.

“I love it when I can goad these idiots into such behavior.
Just retired from the EPA where it is 80% lib. ONe of my co-workers was a big lib and loved to talk politics with me.
But he was so easy to infuriate that the Boss would have to shut him up. He would start screaming at me and I would just throw in a few comments designed to infuriate him. It was great fun.

When one becomes infuriated with you he can easily be made to look like an idiot even to those who share his point of view.”

I used to do something similar to some of the libtards I worked with before I retired from ATT. It was like poking a rabid animal with sharp stick. There was a shallow veneer of peace and sweetness about them but it took very little to send them into a frothing rage, even though I would occasionally use patently false statements to tweak them.

For example:
One fellow was a generally ok fellow but a hard core Democrat and believed all Republicans were evil nazis and fascists etc. I asked how that could be be when Hitler was a Democrat. I maintained Nazi was short for NSDAP and the english meaning was National Socialist Democratic Workers Party thereby making Hitler a Democrat.

The correct designation, of course, was National Socialist German Workers Party. The absurdity of the argument went right over his head and and sent him into a ranting spittle flecked rage. This kept him worked up for most of an hour and was amazing to watch. He never caught on till I told him he was getting his chain pulled and explained the situation. He was ready to have a stroke because I dared to insult the sacred party.

I was at work Friday talking to a former officer in the U.S. Military. He was a graduate of one of the acadamies.

I was stunned and shocked at his venom for President Bush. I don’t believe he would be voting Republican this year.

This was an officer who had voted for President Reagan, too.

No sh*t...I’ve seen almost the same thing happen.

Was it evil that confronted you? Yes.

I’ve been there. There is pure evil in this world. Hatred seems to be a necessary ingredient in the mix. Reason and logic have been omitted.
