Were Dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark? (yes)

So, Were Dinosaurs on the Ark?

In Genesis 6:19–20, the Bible says that two of every sort of land vertebrate (seven of the “clean” animals) were brought by God to the Ark. Therefore, dinosaurs (land vertebrates) were represented on the Ark. How Did Those Huge Dinosaurs Fit on the Ark?

Although there are about 668 names of dinosaurs, there are perhaps only 55 different “kinds” of dinosaurs. Furthermore, not all dinosaurs were huge like the brachiosaurus, and even those dinosaurs on the Ark were probably “teenagers” or young adults.

Not just divine inspiration, but divine revelation. I don’t know that you’re making a distinction between the two but I just wanted that to be clear.

I’m sorry you feel you’ve had a bad experience. but there are plenty of questions that the current bad science does not answer.

for example the idea that layers accumulated over millions of years is a farce. the theory was thought up in the 1800s and should not be taught today. the layers are clearly the result of the sorting action of water. very many fossils and trees are found “polystrata”, sticking through the layers. and millions of years would not lead to ordered layers anyway. there would be events, animals, weather, that would churn the layers up before they even got a chance to settle. the sorting action of water is a MUCH more reasonable theory.

And the idea that the colorado river carved the grand canyon is LAUGHABLE. the top of the canyon is higher than the bottom! water does not flow uphill. there is no way that river carved that canyon. the canyon was carved very quickly by a large amount of water

the diomataceous earth mines near the san andreas fault have no explanation under the current bad science, but fit right in with the Bible’s account of water coming up from under the earth, which would be very hot, and instantly killing trillions of diatoms, and billions of fish. they even found a whale in the vertical position.

there is tons more. the fact is, there are huge, gaping errors in the earth sciences, errors which would be fixed, but for the fact that the real answer supports the Bible.

But none of them are dinosaurs. We have a good fossil record showing the connection of current gators, crocs and sharks to their ancestors during the age of dinosaurs.

I understand none are dinosaurs. My point was to say that there are species that certainly have survived.

Noah was pretty smart. He took baby animals on the ark with him. Since dinosaurs were just overgrown lizards..... You anti-creation people are funny.

I chuckle as I imagine the scene of Noah trying to get the baby raptor away from the mama raptor. There's probably a further comedy routine for Bill Cosby in there somewhere.

I saw a TV show years ago on a christian station. They were discussing the possibility of a small area of the ark floor on the inside being open. That would make it easy to shove any waste right into the water.

... this 'evidence' I realize is what is driving more and more away from the Church. So much is flawed, illogical, or kindergarten level, it makes many of faith look plain silly.

The bible warns that the devil disguises himself with extreme cleverness. In my opinion, Creationists fall into the category of those who are fooled by pride into enabling a well-disguised Satan. Your observation above shows how Satan is working through them, IMO.

I've not read C.S. Lewis (yet!), but sure like your quote from him that the science tells us how God created the world and the Bible tells us why. You're also the only other poster I've seen on FR who suspects that pride is behind so much of the Young Earth fixation. My own thinking is that evolution doesn't challenge God, it challenges human pride. If God formed us from the lowly ape, then so be it -- it doesn't alter a thing with regard to how the bible instructs us to treat each other and if anything, it makes the gift of Jesus, our Saviour who died for our sins that we may live, even more poignant.

Our spiritual world is as dog-eat-dog as is the natural world, and in the natural world, the rule is "Adapt or Perish." The bible shows us humans how to adapt anytime, anyplace, in the spiritual realm to survive both materially and spiritually. Human civilizations that adapt to the environment that is God's reality by embracing the rules of Scripture, thrive. Those that don't, perish. Our Judeo-Christian Western Civilization is in danger of perishing precisely because it is no longer adapting to God's reality, and rejecting it instead.

We're not in disagreement- some species did survive, including some pretty large species (such as crocodiles).

There was probably more going on than just the meteor that hit the Yucatan. Rather than just one cause of their demise, there were probably several factors that created a perfect storm of extinction for dinosaurs (who were already probably slowly dying out).

That is a funny image but it’s possible the momma raptors didn’t keep their young around. That’s pretty common for reptiles.

You get me wrong, it isn’t that I had a bad experience, I think I had a very good experience, being exposed to all sides and being able to look at history and make the decision. It is easy to look at these arguments on both sides with a skeptic approach. For example, the diatomaceous earth mines argument is very illogical because we see current buildup of diatomaceous elements (microorganisms, shells, corals, etc.) in many areas of the world, without the need for ‘fountains of the deep to burst’.

The layers argument due to the ‘sorting action of water’ isn’t logical counter argument because we see short period layers within time frames we can measure, such as the history of settlements. They provide us with a micro time view of what happens on a macro level. We can see these layers being created in our own history.

I haven’t seen a textbook (except maybe young elementary level) that states the Colorado alone created the Grand Canyon on its own. Most refer to the river, but also the uplift of the Colorado Plateau. At that much of what we see is actually the plateau uplift. These tectonics created cracks and fissures that helped the river carve out the sculpture of the canyon. Many of the features where also created from ancient seas rising and receding over and over. At that, even with the dam control of the river, we see carving going on to this very day. If we can see this in the short period of our observation, the nature of what would happen over greater time periods would be massive, especially considering that the river level greatly dropped when the Gulf of California opened.

But overall, saying a gap in knowledge damns the theory isn’t a good approach because much of our faith is filling in gaps in physical knowledge.

I put a little bit of info in post 122. There is much more, requiring a little effort to find

I really don’t see any distinction between the two. Divine revelation still leaves human misinterpretation of the relevation (by the author), human mistranslation of the words (by the translator), and human misinterpretation of the words (by you and I) to gum up the works.

There are, and have been, many opportunities for human imperfection to creep into the Word of God.

That just can’t be. Jurassic Park III clearly showed that raptors were nurturing parents ...

“we see short period layers within time frames we can measure, such as the history of settlements”

and almost invariably, the accumulation of that material is caused by macroscopic events, not by just sitting there & accumulating dust - the exact opposite of the “layers” lunacy
