I agree with the idea of adding something/anything about yourself personally on profile page. a RECENT pix is great too.

When I see NOTHING.. I wonder.. what is that person hiding? Why does that person NOT care about getting acquainted?

I know many people are paranoid about the Internet & revealing too much. There has to be a happy medium if one is interested in any socialization.

If one just wants to read the articles there is absolutely NO REASON to sign up for membership ... by Interaction on threads we want to know who we are chatting with (well, at least I do)

and I do NOT mean this in a dating sense.. in general. For singles yes, it is a great way to meet others & have some potential for future. I know of MANY couples that met on FR & are now married! a few of them met at our singles threads where people were willing to open up a bit & show vulnerability & show some trust.

The major BEAUTY of the age differences is that we older ones have younger kids contacts & the younger have older family friends & fix ups work JUST FINE!...

Over my years of participation since 2003 I have personally met hundreds of FReepers at various functions or just planning get togethers.. and I don't mean just opposite sex. I have phone numbers, emails & have found friends.

That is what I want out of a forum..I visit w/o membership other political forums at most just to see what is there..& normally is is done better & bigger here.

Is FR perfect.. well, of course not.. it is composed of imperfect people with strong & varied personalities. But it is a good site with good people if you take the time to get to know them.

a RECENT pix is great too.

My pic is in my page. Scares the kids, though...

We oughta post a thread titled, "Single FReepers, Show Us Your Mugs!"

yes!

that would be good/funny. People who are turned on or off by certain appearances will like this..

I years ago went to a dating site online.. met a guy for drinks at local restaurant.. his pix was like Ben Afflick. His appearance like Danny Devito..... and about 30 years older than the pix indicated.

Deception, half truths & outright lies kill relationships & friendships very quickly! Also his correspondance was not at all reality .. He was looking for the Cindy Crawford type.. (good luck.. bet he is STILL LOOKING...15 years later)

Truth is Dave, I probably killed the singles thread with my well known sunny demeanor! (/sarc)

I do miss DollyCali doing the singles thread, though. She was always a lot of fun.

I’m in. But I have to admit, following Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover” system leaves me with severe limitations as to my capability to wine and dine expensive FReeperettes. I’m looking more for the homebodies anyway......

Good to see ya.

Wow its been a long time since being pinged to the singles thread.

anymouse has his/her yahoo site up and I was there for awhile but there was no postings there that I was aware of.

It might be interesting to see how long this thread lasts

I think Dolly had invited me onto that thread, but it was like you said, such a wide disparity of ages (old women and under-35 males) and it was always the same small group of people. Just wasn’t going to work. I wish we could put something together that could be workable. Some of us have been looking for suitable people for a long time (5 1/2 years in my case) and don’t know where to go... :-\

I've got an authentic Southern cornbread recipe, if you're interested. :)

Be warned, though....it's not sweet and cakelike.

What I saw: There weren’t enough of us to match age/interest.

“...Be warned, though....it’s not sweet and cakelike....”

If it’s sweet and cake like, it AIN’T cornbread.

I agree, but some people like it that way. I like the coarse, corn-flavored stuff with plenty of salt.

You betcha! Coarse texture with lots of little holes to soak up pot liquor, especially from turnips or collards! My dad would crumble cornbread in a glass of buttermilk and call it dessert.

I must admit my mistake in the singles thread. I thought it more of a "dating for singles" kind of thing and went on there, trying to get in on the conversation.

" 3.) We had no clear goal other than as a discussion thread, not an intentional dating/find-a-mate thread.

That is where I erred. I find it impossible to find any here on Long Island who aren't metro-sexual, let alone conservative & available, so I thought a fellow FReeper BF would be wonderful!!!!

"We can restart the threads on here and subdivide them into people with more intent and purpose,"

Good idea!!!

Let me guess - you’re still single?
