Here’s an easy treat, we often cooked them on the picnic table outdoors to keep the heat out of the house. Must of fed half the kids in the neighborhood on these.

Carnival Fritters

Ingredients
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon. salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
1 egg
2 tablespoons grappa (a fragrant grape-based pomace brandy of between 37.5% and 60% alcohol by volume (75 to 120 US proof), of Italian origin)
Vegetable oil for deep frying
Confectioners sugar for dusting

Instructions
In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.

In a large bowl, combine the butter, egg, and grappa.

Add the dry ingredients and stir until the dough is stiff.

Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, (about 1 minute.)

Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

Divide the dough in half.

Roll out each half as thinly as possible.

With a pastry cutter, cut into 4” x 1-1/2” strips.

In a deep fryer or saucepan, heat oil to 350 degrees F.

Working in batches, add the strips to the oil and fry until puffed and golden, (1-2 minutes.)

Using a slotted spoon, to transfer Fritters to paper towels to drain.

When completely cool, dust with confectioner sugar.

Best when served immediately, but they can be stored at room temperature for a few days.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

Trooper Philip Lawrence, Light Dragoons, KIA 22JUL2009

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Flowers of the Forest

Black Watch Piper

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brother, among these who answered the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

Love this story!

I would love to have known what went on that night for me to wake up in the morning and see them like they're BFF after previous mornings of yelling and throwing.   8^)

Thank you, jaycee & yorkie, for you comments on yesterday's opening. I enjoyed looking for Native American graphics to use in illustrating FishHawk's "I am that story" poem.

Your Native American Prayer at #2689 is so pretty, jaycee, as is your poem and graphic in post #2691, yorkie.

Thank you both for your many lovely posts every day.

Good afternoon, Billie.
Thank you for today's Opening.
You did a beautiful job with FH's poem.
Thank you again.

Thanks, Amy - and thank you for asking me to illustrate it.

Hope the first part of your vacation is going well today - bet you're all singing car songs and playing car games! Stay cool, and stay safe on this trip! "See" you when you get back.

UGH! I HATE those things! I was stung by a scorpion when I was a little girl, and I won’t ever forget how it felt. The sting hurt, but I remember afterwards being sick at my stomach - guess it was the poison. I can’t think of one redeeming quality a stinging scorpion has! LOL

Wonderful news about the additional property, and I am looking forward to seeing pictures of the small lake, Kitty! I know how much time it takes keeping up the place!

What beautiful petunias! They are always so pretty and the blooms so big at the nursery. Then when I get them home, if I don’t pick the spent blooms off every day, they tend to quit blooming quickly - which is why I don’t buy them anymore. :( The last two or three years I’ve been putting only geraniums, verbenas, bouganvilla and gerbera daisies in my pots and hanging baskets. More color, less work! :)
