There's been a big fuss this week because Michelle Obama wore shorts. She's worn shorts before to walk the dog, do stuff around the White House. But the photos of her wearing them in that iconic descending-from-Air-Force-One-onto-the-tarmac setting proved too much for the media. Obamas? Check. Summer news doldrums? Check. Controversy? Close enough. It was a story.
* * *
But the truth is there was a conflict. It is within each of us. While nobody would make Mrs. O wear couture in Arizona in August, the truth is, she just didn't look particularly good in shorts. Her arms are much admired. Her legs are just, you know, legs. Nobody immediately stepped forward, as J. Crew did with her cardigans, to announce "Hey, we made those! You can buy them too at unflatteringshorts.com."

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Are there any examples of other first ladies dressing like this while descending the steps of Air Force One?
It isn’t easy being the most beautiful woman in the world.
She just doesn’t look particularly good in couture, either. MEOW!!;)
Those are not short shorts. IMHO
They look appropriate for location, season and travel.
Are there any examples of other presidents unwilling to legally identify themselves to the American citizen?
It’s not just the shorts. It’s the rumpled old tank top and the rumpled top she threw over it. And the hair. What would possess her to go out looking like that?
I could care less what she wears “off duty”, but if the MSM is trying to convince us she is Jakie O’ II, she better keep up her end of the bargain.
The empress has no clothes but they are eyesores
That’s what bothered me. I don’t care that she is wearing shorts around the White House (I would like a wee bit of respect shown to the House though), but as I stated on an earlier thread about this, “You would think she would dress for the position that allowed her to travel in the Air Force One in the first place.”
Leave it to TIME magazine to push a completely irrelevant tabloid story as a means to distract the people from the nationalization of health care.
They use Air Force One as a personal taxi cab taking them anywhere they want to go. So why have any respect for it.
I'm sure in their minds it isn't any different than them getting out of their Lincoln Navigator going to the Five Guys for burgers and fries.
Oh yeah, and the pic made me sing “I don’t know but I been told... big legged woman ain’t got no soul”
