Football season is right around the corner, and two big stories have dominated the run-up to it: The return of Brett Favre and Michael Vick.
Vick, of course, is returning to football after serving a prison sentence for a dog-fighting conviction. Favre is an aging legend destined for the Hall of Fame, so his coming out of retirement (again) would be notable under any circumstances. But his return this year is especially noteworthy because of the team he has chosen to play for. The Minnesota Vikings, of course, are the dreaded and hated arch-enemies of his old team, the Green Bay Packers.

It could happen.
Things will be interesting this year among my wife’s family. She’s a diehard Viking’s fan (along with our youngest daughter), while many of her family are cheeseheads in the worse way. The bickering began on Facebook shortly after the announcement that Favre had become a Viking. It might just create a “schism” in her family (had to use the same word the media used with regard to the few Viking’s players who are unhappy about Favre - LOL).
If the Vikes win with Favre all that bickering goes away, just like John Madden said, “Winning is a great deodorant.”
You guys have a good running back - last time I looked. If he continues to be good, Farve - and the Vikes - can have a great season. That was the main reason of his last great year at GB. Their RB caught on fire and was nearly unstoppable. Farve did not have to carry the team on his shoulders. QBs can only do so much. Hell, look at Elway. Once the Broncos got a grade A RB, they won two SBs. Imagine what they could have done if they had a great RB in their other SB appearances.
Favre is going to have a nice weapon in Percy Harvin as well.
The bickering between members of the Viking’s team perhaps will disapear if Favre does well. But, between my brother-in-law and my wife and daughter? Not in the least.
You guys are totally ignoring the real story: who will Tony Romo’s next celebrity girlfriend be ???
I chose him as my sleeper receiver, in my Fantasy league along with Wells of Arizona, I also ended up with Fitzgerald and Drew Brees. (sp?) I could have a better year the my beloved Vikes.

Thank you. Usually, when I post that quotation in response to some news about a sports figure or team, I get attacked by the Freepers who are sports fans.
I’m going to sit back and watch this NFL season. I expect Brett Favre to have 28 TD passes (Terry Bradshaw’s best ever season) and chuckle as ESPN announcers describe Favre as a failure. Brett Favre, to the liberals at ESPN (they’re libs, if they were better as journalists they’d be working at Huffpo or the NYT or ABC) hate Favre because he represents your average American guy. The traditional guy, a country boy. The left hates that as an image and if today’s youth looks up to Brett Favre, the left is worried that they’ll want to emulate traditional American values.

I am man of God first, and God has no home team favorite in sports.
My guess would be, that if there were a graduation rank in percentages of the members of any certain job or trade, well I do believe that sports heroes would have a percentage of members making it to heaven that would rival that of politicians and media personal.
I am a die hard Viking who bleeds purple, but if Christ came when I was watching my Vikings, and they were down by four points with 2 seconds left in the Superbowl with the ball on the goal line with the ball, guess what?
I would walk away gladly and follow my Lord.
same situation here with my wife and her family. all cheese all the time. while my son, daughter anad new son-in-law all bleed purple. I had to marry her because I felt I had a civic duty to start breeding it out of them. so far so good.
My wife’s family are all 49ers, and I like you felt it was an obligation to society to dwindle the number of fans the 49ers have.
She is now a purple people eater supporter whom her family considers a traitor. They do have fun flashing their titles in my face, but revenge if mine.

Favre going to the Vikings is still nothing compared to Rick Pitino going to Louiville after coaching Kentucky or Nick Saban going to Alabama after coaching LSU.
