All...
I'm buying an AK....my first.
It's a GP-1975 AK; poly furniture, carry bag, 4x30rd mags, sling, cleaning rod...for < $400.
Also, 1,000 rds of 7.62x39 to work out the kinks with.
I'm looking for advice on upgrades/enhancements. Things like stocks/sights/compensators/suppressors, etc.
Also, where are the best resources for all the add-ons and gear for an AK? Message boards and knowledge base-type things.
I've never owned an AK, never shot one, never anything with one.
But now I own one. And I want to work it up.
I think I did good buying this and now I want to get to where I'm a great shooter with it.
AND...I want to find the best resources/info dumps for AK's...
Free Republic has always been the best for that kind of stuff.
C
Sell it and buy a real weapon.
Yep...
I already have shotguns and an M-1 Garand - circa 1943.
1911’s in .45, Springfield XD subcompact in .40, etc.
This is an addition.
What should I trade it for?
I was at the local range yesterday and they had a DPMS M4 in the front case. New, for $775.
Is that a decent price?

That is a site with a lot of information.
Or ar15.com, they have an AK section.
There’s really not a whole lot of stuff you need to add.
Google the words you don’t recognize.
The only advice I would give is to put an ultimak gas tube on it, then place a bushnell TRS-25 red dot on that rail.
Buy a Primary Weapons Systems FSC 47 compensator/flash hider.
Replace your pistol grip with a Hogue AK grip.
Buy a romanian 75 round drum.
Get a Blue Force Gear Quick Adjust Two point sling.
Replace the lower handguard with a k-var bulgarian polymer lower handguard and stainless steel heathshield.
That’s it. Don’t buy Tapco Products. The only good tapco product is their G2 trigger parts which your rifle already has installed. Other tapco parts are either too flimsy or can melt.
PS. You don’t have to get any of the stuff I recommended. But I suspect that dressing up that rifle is going to be addictive, and I just don’t want you to get sucked into buying inexpensive stuff that you may end up replacing. Plus if you buy that stuff, people will look at you like you know what you’re doing. I know that would make you a poser but at least your equipment choices are awesome.
It depends on the purpose. Home defense, hunting, other. The AK is a reliable weapon but it’s value is narrow.
You just ended up on the O-Regime’s “watch list”. LOL
If you dont have an AK you dont have a gun. The best add-on IMO is the J-Tec compensator

Look around a bit and you can find it cheaper. Watch this video on U-Tube......ahhhh now thats a reliable weapon.

Not in my circles
Don’t let the haters get you down...an AK-47 is (pun intended) bullet proof. It will fire wet, muddy, in sand, etc....it is the world’s best selling rifle, and for a reason...it works!!! I have AR-15’s, SKS, Remington hunting rifles, Rugers 10/22’s etc...but an AK is an asset for a SHTF situation! IT shoots the most commonly available round in the world (7.62x39) which is still CHEAP to get compared to 5.56mm....anyway, try Cheaper than Dirt, Century International Arms, and JJ&G Sales for parts...
I have an AK. But if you have to ask questions about the AK you don’t need one. My initial response was too short to the poster, (my bad). The AK stays in the safe here. Others don’t
Full auto AK47s are selling for $10 in Iraq. Get a real gun like Springfield. I would rather have a M1 carbine than a commie gun. At least the M1 bullets don’t tumble.
Yeah , sell it and buy a real weapon. You will easily put another 800 bucks into your AK Frame, an accurate chromized barrel, trigger assembly, scope mount, scope, fitted stocks, recoil compensator, parkerizing, adjustable iron sights.
For the 1200 dollars you could have bought a civilian version of the AR-15 or one of the clones, much better guns. They are made by S & W, Colt, High Standard,
So selling your AK and buying a real weapon is actually good advice. You sink your money onto your AK and you will never get it back. You would with an AR-15 clone.
I thought I was mean. You are evil : ) But you are right. My AK was tricked out and I got it at a fire sale price. I will sell it at the right time.
That's the REASON I'm loading up!!!
There’s a very good site but sorry I can’t locate it, run by a young guy out in Utah that goes from A-Z on AKs. Shows you how to check your WASR and correct cant in the gas tube and front site, and for `trigger-slap.’
And Check out Impact Guns, cheaperthandirt and Sportsmans Guide for parts and ammo, but a lot of the aftermarket stuff is strap-on junk. You can get good replacement pistol grips at natchez shooters and cheaper ammo & mags. And check out Cabelas.
Hope that’s helpful. I have no `wisdom’ except that a lot of our troops like to throw one in the cab, they always shoot & use a non-varmint round. I have three WASRs, one a folding stock, one single-stack, and paid less for them than one AR.
Buy 10 more magazines, a bayonet, and you’re good to go.
Probably wouldn’t hurt to invest in a few spare parts though.
Hold it.
I’ve GOT real weapons!
A LOT of them!
This is another gun. That I decided to buy...It’s not like this is the only gun I own or have bought.
Do you have any answers to the questions I asked?
So, give me an idea...
What’s the best price you’ve seen for a GP-1975 AK here in the states?
What can I expect to buy/sell one for?
