I open my mailbox yesterday and I have a letter from the Census Bureau. I'm thinking it's the short form because it's in a regular envelope.
So I open it up and it's a letter stating that the actual Census form will be mailed in about a week. I guess that means I need to cancel my vacation so I can be home to respond to the census.
Talk about a waste of taxpayer dollars. Maybe they were figuring this would give the US Postal Service something to do?
I opened it just for the laugh.
"Here's a letter telling you that we'll be sending you another letter!"
A clean gun is a good thing, no?
I got my census form months ago. In fact, I got two of them and a follow-up letter. Now I get a letter saying I’m going to get a census form.
What a waste...
Absolutely!!
I got the same thing yesterday and complained to my husband about it.
My favorite part was the two or three references to “getting your community the money it NEEDS”
News flash, I don’t want any govt. money and the less money given to communities the better. How about just letting us keep the money we earn and let us spend it however we damn well please.
YEP! I got one too. It came from the Dept of Commerce! The point was to encourage everyone to fill out their census forms, as failure to do so would interfere with receipt of those “free” government goodies, programs, checks. etc!!!.Of course, no mention of the REAL reason for the census—house seats in our Constitutional Republic! After all, who cares about THAT junk!!! What a friggin’ disgrace.
I noticed that to. There was no mention of the actual constitutional purpose.
I have several houses and received a letter at each one. I did not open any of them. All trashed.
So let’s say there are 90 million households in the US. So, at .41 a pop - that’s only 36 million and some change. Folks, we are talking trillions here - what’s anything south of a billion? You are obviously not thinking in terms of the new paradigm.

“they [Census] are sending out six separate mailings, including advance notices, multiple questionnaires and follow-up reminders to more than 130 million households.
But millions of those mailings will go to addresses that the U.S. Postal Service lists in its files as undeliverable. They are part of a category that the Postal Service calls UAAs (Undeliverable As Addressed). As a result, the Postal Service...will distribute the mailings to post offices for attempted delivery, even though they are going to vacant houses or to addresses that are otherwise undeliverable....28 million Census mailings that bureau officials and the U.S. Postal Service have agreed will simply be thrown away...Of the 425 million pieces of mail that began going out last month, up to 28 million pieces, or about 7 percent, will end up in the nations recycling bins.
Probably a drop in the bucket compared to the ads on TV and cable. And as others noted, with lots of “make sure you get yours” references.
...and ads on the radio
I found the repeated use of the “fair share” argument incredibly offensive.
I received the same letter, and where are the environmentalist activists to protest the death of the trees that were butchered to create this mass mailing?
44 cents for almost a year now. You must do all your business online :)
Did anyone notice the verbage about getting your “share.”
We got the same thing. I wonder if they will also send a letter thanking us for filling out the form?
Just what EXACTLY are we legally required to fill out on that form?
