If you are looking for the best pizza, go to Chicago.

Someone will probably come along and give specifics. But, being a total NYC pizza - aholic when I go I typically only eat pizza for nearly the whole time I am there. To the point where my family is begging for something else. It’s hard to get a bad pie in NYC if you stick to the local places.

Pizza is a food with a wide range of characteristics these days and whether or not it is “good” or “bad” is a matter of personal taste.

There was a show on either the Food or Travel channel recently about NY vs. Chicago pizza. IIRC, one of the NY eateries that was featured was Ray’s. Now, there may be a number of eateries by that name that aren’t related to one another. It would be best to ask when there.

Agreed. It's a matter of personal taste, but if you like NY-style pizza, just stick to any place with an Italian guy's name (Angelo's, Dominic's, Tony's), and you should be fine.

Personally, when in NY and gorging on NY style pizzas, I also try to find a place that has good Italian Ices.

I grew up in The Bronx, lived for several years in Brooklyn, and have been in NJ for the last 30 years. You will get as many opinions on this subject as there are pizzerias in NY, which easily number in the thousands. Many people will swear that the little joint on the corner is the best in the world. I won't add fuel to that fire, but here is a link that might be of some use:

Pizza Park on Ave. U in Brooklyn. Easily the best in all NYC.

The best pizza I ever had was from a street vendor in the Bronx. The real question “is there really a bad pizza in NYC?”.
The second question is - why are you taking your family there?

I was born and raised in NY yet my favorite all time pizza is Imo’s Pizza in St Louis.

Go figure.

This is an easy one.

Famous Ray’s Pizza on the corner of 11th St and 6th Ave in Manhattan.

It’s the top of the West Village.

Do they sell pizza? If yes, it’s the best. Marginal restaurants don’t even bother opening in New York City.

My opinion and I have yet to be let down following that advice in that city.
