Para-ordnance P12

Posted on 07/24/2010 6:55:21 PM PDT by blackbart.223

I have a Para-Ordnance P12. There are some that claim they have trouble with jams. I never had a problem with mine. Any comments?

hollow points were invented to make a high velocity bullet stop faster in flesh. A bullet that zings clear through the (living) target transfers less energy to the target than one that expands and stops rather abruptly. It’s like the difference between stabbing someone with a needle vs hitting them with a ballpein hammer. The hammer blow will more drastically affect a person’s ability to retaliate.

45ACP is not a high velocity round an thus the advantages of a hollow point projectile over a non hollow point are much less(or non existent) in 45ACP vs 9mm, which is extremely high velocity in comparison.

The advantages of hollow points in 45ACP are even less when one considers the FACT that typical 1911 45ACP reliability suffers SIGNIFICANTLY when loaded with hollowpoints.

Well, I take my life in my hands everyday and offer myself as a sacrifice to God....

I shave.

Somedays I wish I were further North or near Natoma.

Otherdays, just want to go fishing all over the Tornado Alley. Mostly, Northeastern Oklahoma.

I also have a Sringfield M1A. Bought it for the same reason.

Several video demo’s of dropping it in all kinds of crap, shake, shake, shake and then boom!

I swear I love that thing. My favorite rifle ever. I used to love shooting my Garand but this thing is just plain beautiful.

Takes anything and I mean anything. From Russian crap, Steel Casings, South Africa surplus. This thing just says “That was fun. Give me some more”.

Was concerned about the synthetic stock but the guy I bought it from offered a guarantee, if I wanted the one carved from a 2x4.

Just love it.

I’ll admit, it’s expensive but given my experience with it and it’s performance...

If you can get one, you will feel better about it in 30 days, when the pain from your credit card heals....

LOL

IIRC, I paid $475 new in a hardshell case with two mags, cleaner, etc. I hung a laser from the rail and it’s my bedside buddy. One mag of hollow points, one of ball ammo.

Pretty confident with it?

I am looking for some extras, just not sure I want to spend $1700 again.

To help with your terminology, guns don’t “jam.”

They “malfunction.”

This can be a failure to feed, failure to fire, or failure to extract. It’s helpful to know the proper terminology to communicate important distinctions.

Speaking of fun to shoot carbines ...

The new Hi-Point 9mm carbine is a hoot! Much improved look and utility over the 'planet of the apes' stock. Now it has lots of rails for attachments. At 25 yards and in you can't beat it for fun and accuracy. I have taken fifteen round mags used in the old stocks and dremeled them to fit the new model. Someone needs to make a twenty round banana mag for this puppy. Still waiting for the promised .45 carbine ...

The .45 is the CALIBER of choice for Specops, but NOT the 1911 variety.

Sorry to break it to you, but Marine Special Forces use Kimber 1911's.....chambered in .45 ACP.

“I swear I love that thing. My favorite rifle ever. I used to love shooting my Garand but this thing is just plain beautiful

The M-14/M-1A1 are really just updated Garands.....in fact John Garand was instrumental in their design.
Basically they got rid of the en-bloc clip and replaced it with a larger capacity box magazine, updated the old (and venerable) 30-06 with its modern equivelent the .308 Winchester (7.62 x 51mm) and improved the gas system. I have always loved this rifle since I first fired it in the Marines.....great out of the box accuracy. In boot camp we could not shoot the ones with the fiberglass stocks because the gave an unfair advantage over those shooting rifles with wooden stocks.....

Have you seen the ones built from forged recievers instead of the cast recievers used on the SA and Fulton Armory offerings? a bit pricy at ~$2700 +, but the best available today without getting a TRW reciever example.....(Almost impossible to do).

The M-14 rifle is an infrantryman’s weapon, is being re-issued to selected troops, and needs no apology from anyone as it stands on it’s own merits.

“It just doesn’t make sense to use FMJ, if you can afford Hollow Point. It’s not like you are using Hollows at the range, that would be a little more expensive than necessary for practice.”

FMJ,Foolproof ammo feeding from the magazine.....
center of mass, double tap (if you have the time on a falling target).......things go down quickly. No need to embellish. Simple and direct! LOLOLOL

Slow moving large caliber rounds can cause as much damage if not more.

“my next .308 will be piston driven AR Bushmaster.”

Are the dreaded black rifles legal in Ca again?

As I remember they would give Don Perata, and the other dem crazies fits.....

Now it seems that they are going more for cutting off the ammo supply.

I also have a Sringfield M1A.

I got mine from a gentleman going through a divorce. Mine is TRW parts in the National Match configuration. My serial # is under 32XXX. It came with one of those synthetic stocks but I replaced it with a Tiger Birch one I got from Fred's.

I topped it off with the correct scope mount and an SA marked rangefinding scope.

If I can see it, I can hit it.

I've got several rifles in my safe but if you ask me which is my favorite, it's the M1A hands down.
