There just might be a bunch of flamingos that show up in your yard overnight

Families in Washougal may be waking up to a yard full of pink flamingos between now and Nov. 23.

That's because Washougal High School Grad Night Parents are trying a new fund-raiser this year.

The flock of roosting flamingos can be removed at no charge within 48 hours, however, recipients can also request a yard for the birds to migrate to next. For a suggested donation of $20, the Grad Night parents will move the flamingos to the yard of your choice -- perhaps an unsuspecting friend or neighbor. Not interested in having the flamingos at all? No problem. Insurance is available for $5 to guarantee there will not be a flocking at your home.

Grad Night parents, who are assuming the role of flockers, want to assure the community that no unsupervised students will be participating in this activity and that this fund-raiser is intended to be all in fun and has no malicious intent at all.

I can see a bunch of politicians wondering just where all these flamingos came from.

They put something in my yard & I have to pay to have it removed??? How about if I just break the bird’s neck & legs off & stuff them in the garbage can like I would do with any other garbage found in my yard.

Yep. More fun than scantly clad teens by the side of the road advertising a car wash.

I think it is fun - and harmless.

Cool idea for a funraiser!

I know of a Boy Scout troop that did the same thing, with pink toilets.

I like it too ....the idea doesn't seem to have a lot of *what-could-possibly-go-wrong* disadvantages to it.

1) I think it's cute and I don't have a serious problem with it.
2) Making an imposition on someone and expecting payment for that imposition could be seen as a type of "bullying" and perhaps this is something that schools should think twice about.
3) When someone feels bullied, the smart response is to fight back and make the bully look elsewhere for fun.
4) If a homeowner decides to break all the flamingoes, the school should smile and say "He knows how to deal with people who impose themselves on him."

What did they call that thing when I was a kid ... a chain of monkeys?

Dunno - I remember playing with it.

Good idea - I am going to steal it for my DeMoley kids.

Of course - that is the risk.

What the ticked off homeowner could always do is hide all the flamingos in the garage or something, then next weekend, take them to the nearest flea market and sell them. Two problems solved at once :-)

Our church youth group tried this 7+ years ago. The flamingos went to the shed to live. In fact, they’re still there.
