Teenager's Song, 'Friday' viewed 100 million times on YouTube

Teen YouTube sensation Rebecca Black sings gleefully about the weekend in her Web video hit "Friday," – and now the 13 year-old has something even more exciting to crow about.

"Friday" has been viewed online more than Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and Justin Bieber's "Pray," Visible Measures, a company that tracks performance of Web videos said on Monday.

Black's low-budget video, which the California teen made with a boutique record label, has generated nearly 100 million views on YouTube since it was posted online on Feb. 10.

But Visible Measures said that including copies of the video, spoofs and other versions available on hundreds of video sites, "Friday" has generated more than 200 million views.

By comparison, looking at the same measurement, Gaga's video for her single "Born This Way" has generated more than 180 million online views, Visible Measures said. Bieber's "Pray" has produced over 65 million views, the company said.

"Born This Way" was released in late February and Bieber's "Pray" came out late last year.

In Black's video "Friday," she can be seen riding in a car with friends and singing "fun, fun, think about fun."

Some critics have blasted the song for being simplistic and glossy, but it has won Black appearances on national television, tens of thousands of sales on Apple's iTunes and chart entries in the United States, the UK, Australia and Canada.

Taylor Hicks, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon parodied the song on Fallon's show.

You can see their performance on YOUTUBE. Their Parody has almost a million hits added for every video posted.

Stephen Colbert made good on his promise to cover Rebecca Black’s YouTube sensation (some would call it an earworm) ‘Friday’ on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.’ And it was epic.

Just a bit of the funny backstory: earlier this week, Colbert claimed that his “best friend for six months,” Fallon, was going to match a $26,000 donation to DonorsChoose.org. Fallon said he promised no such thing, but in the spirit of saying your BFFSM will do something without consulting him first, he promised that Colbert would sing ‘Friday’ with the Roots if his audience could raise the $26,000 by Friday.

Well, they more than doubled that amount, and NBC Universal kicked in another 26 grand; more than $80,000 in contributions were made to this site, where educators solicit donations for school supplies and projects.

Colbert decided to not only come out in a tuxedo, but to also sing give the song a mournful, soulful vibe that Miss Black could have never touched in a million years. The Roots backed Colbert with their expert mix of hip hop and rock. Then Fallon came out and sang in an overly-modulated Auto Tune manner reminiscent of T-Pain. Add Taylor Hicks bursting out of a weekly calendar and the Knicks City Dancers, and you had the makings of a late night classic.

So are people watching this in millions because it makes them laugh their asses off?

Yeah...pretty much. Poor dear, this is what happens when you hand the keys of ambition and ego to a teen and her overindulgent parents.
EPIC FAIL

Her song is catchy sounding cute but a talented masterpiece it ain’t. One or two listens and then its a bore. I’m always more impressed when skillfully playing a musical instrument is involved.

While she mentions breakfast and cereal in the song, her pronunciation of the title in the chorus actually makes me want “fried eggs, fried eggs.”

I just viewed the video.

It has 98 MILLION views, but the interesting thing about it is the ‘likes’ vs. ‘dislike’ ratio. As of now, it’s 256,000 ‘likes’...and almost 2 MILLION ‘dislikes’.

Put me in the ‘dislike’ column. She’s a lovely girl...but she has a voice like a goat.

If this is what ‘modern’ music is supposed to be, gimme the classics...because this sounds like a bunch of hog-flop.

Of course, the fat kid with the Star Wars sabre gets a lot of youtube views too. That isn’t necessarily an indication that people like her song or think she has talent.

I like the funny comments from people who want to do terrible things to poor Rebecca.

That’s not her voice. It’s a computer generated, pitch corrected representation of her voice. As for the video. It’s a typical teenage girl fantasy, but the reality of it is frightening. A couple of cute 13 year old girls sitting on the back deck of a convertible while running around to different parties with a couple of 16 year old boys who seem to think they are cool rapper types. What could possibly go wrong?

The world has obviously completely lost its ability to evaluate what is good quality and what is not.

I predict the net genre of music will be “artists” hitting rocks with sticks.

“Ugh, Ugh, Ugh,

Me no like fire,

Fire bad,

Pretty girl good.

Girl Good,

Fire bad,

Fire girl bad,
No fire girl good.

Ugh, ugh,

Me no like fire.

Me like shiny object,

But not fire!!!!

Oh baby, baby, baby, baby.

No fire.

This is what happens when someone with no life experience tries to be edgy. Unfortunately.
