Spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros, who underwent surgery for a brain tumor three years ago, died early Saturday at his home in northern Spain, AFP reported citing Spanish public television.
Ballesteros, 54, regarded as one of golf's all-time greats, "died this morning in his house in Pedrena (Cantabria)," TVE1 said.

Very sad. There are worse ways to go, but not many.
One of the good guys, I didn’t seem to mind losing the Ryder Cup, so much when he was Captain, instead of Mrs. Doubtfire.
He was kind of the Arnold Palmer of the Euros.
And then sink the 25 footer for birdie. Like Arnold Palmer did and Phil Mickelson does. That's why they're so popular with the fans. Great styles to watch. And Seve combined that with wearing his emotions on his sleeve. Made golf as exciting as it gets.

Seve was the mentor for Olazabal and Sergio. He was a good golfer, but a poor sport.
I seem to recall a match play session in the Ryder Cup where Seve was playing against Tom Lehman. Lehman’s ball was about 15 inches from the cup and everyone expected Seve to give it to him. Lehman bent down to pick up his ball, fully expecting Seve to say it was good. ...Silence from Seve. The look on Lehman’s face and in his eyes was almost pure hatred as he stared at Seve. Lehman made the putt, but that action really angered the American team.
He was an interesting case. Before that, he had so much trouble with his foot, he couldn't walk the course any more, and he retired from the game. Then, some doctor found out it was his back that was causing his foot trouble, tweaked it, and he was able to return to the game and do well, for a while.
And right, I remember some photos of Seve with his “gamesmanship”, where he’d stand in front of his opponent’s line of sight on a putt, and casually stick his foot out there, to try to distract him. Little distractions like that are really annoying in that game.
Seve was the best for getting (in and) out of trouble. He had some of the most creative shot making abilities.
I remember growing up, learning the game... and when ever I was in trouble I’d try to do a “Seve” - punching out from behind a tree, etc.

Just read about this...how sad. His spunk and charisma will be missed. Rest in peace.
