Just finished reading the Hobbit (for the umpteenth time), can’t wait for the movie version. Hope it holds to the book better then the trilogy of the Rings did.

By the way, the animated version wasn’t bad.

Hooks you in like the old LOTR ones. Peter Jackson’s still got it.

And he dies at the end of the movie. Into the West was an allogory for death.

Fordo didn’t die, he just moved on the authors version of Valhalla.

I thought in the book he fell into the fire with the ring and with gollum.

Oh no, he gets the honor of passing into the afterlife without dying.

No he didn’t. The ring and gollum fell into the pit of fire, the overall hero, Sam, pulled him back at the last minute.

Nope. I believe in the animated version and the book, he was whisked away by the eagles at the last moment.

dang.

I am getting to the point I can’t trust my memory anymore. When I watched that movie I was stunned at the ending and yelled at the TV “No! He falls in with the ring!” I could’ve sworn the last chapter of the book was sam going back to the shire by himself.

Ya know what else? I read the hobbit too. And I can’t remember a single dam thing about it. It is a total and complete blank.

So will anyone try The Silmarillion? FWIW I stopped reading it because it seemed almost like an alternative bible/story of creation and it was getting that I knew more about it than the real thing.
