Sheriff: Malibu Dishwasher Died Of Upper Respiratory Disease

MALIBU (CBS) — The 32-year-old restaurant dishwasher who was found in a pool of his own blood outside Guido’s in Malibu apparently died from an upper respiratory disease, authorities said.

Carlos Ivan Rodas was found dead Sunday night just steps from the door of Guido’s in the Malibu County Mart shopping center at Pacific Coast Highway and Cross Creek Road, according to sheriff’s deputies and a coroner’s spokesman.

Rodas’ death was first reported as a stabbing, then as a brutal beating. Officials later said they believed Rodas died of natural causes, despite the large amount of blood found at the scene.

An official cause of death from the coroner’s office was unavailable. Sheriff’s detectives issued a statement Wednesday, saying they did not believe any foul play was involved and that Rodas died from a respiratory disease.

Pneumonia would be bad enough and not all cases of pneumonia present with a cough. In this economy and increased job competition, I think it is unlikely that someone would take off work due to illness, especially if they were unaware that they had a contagious illness......about ten years ago, my friend who is a doctor, had a Guatamalan patient with HEP something and TB come to him for treatment . She was a waitress, she told him. He immediately forbade her from working and began treating her, first in a hospital and told her to stay home until she could be medically evaluated further. One night he invited some friends and a State Senator to dinner to discuss some Hospital business in the City’s upscalest restaurant. Guess who his waitress was? He shut the restaurant down right there, had the board of health there and hospitalized her until she was pronounced noncommunicable.

Thanks for the note of sympathy. I never knew her because she passed away long before I was born. I share your thought that it would be an unfortunate way to go. I know it had a sad impact on my father and uncle, and of course their dad, not to mention their mom. It is certainly something you wish to avoid having an impact on other families.

The tragic thing is, despite this ‘threat’ to our citizens, our government agencies are still more interested in sacrificing us to the immigration gods, rather than sacrificing access for our protection. That seems backwards to me.

As you mentioned, travel is a risk. It’s still much less of a risk than allowing someone with a full blown case access to our populace here.

Treatment is available, but it’s my understanding that the medication itself is no walk in the park.

Thank you for your comments, note of sympathy.

Thanks for the mention. I suppose man is destined to go through certain times of trouble. I accept that. What I do not accept is our exposure to known death threats by people paid to represent us. US, damn it!

These people are serving anyone but us these days.

Half the service labor in Malibu are illegal aliens.

It's all the wealthy in Malibu hire. Those people live like kings and queens and hire illegal, low wage peasants.

There is currently an outbreak of Ebola in Uganda of the Sudan variety. So far 14 reported dead. Don’t go to restaurants frequented by Ugandans, especially new arrivals.

Better yet, stay the hell away from airports or anone who has been to one in the last two weeks. Easier said than done, isn’t it? Maybe this will give 0bama an idea for an October Surprise—a national ebola crisis to “bring the country together” under his leadership.
