Are they sure he is 73? He should have grown up during the era of common sense.

Dude, what were you thinking?
Everyone knows you put it in a vise and pound it a few times with a hammer to see if it’s live.

The ADA Vulcan Gun 20MM had an indirect fire capability, but would not call it “Artillery”.

Know a wreck diver who did something similar - found a
live 4” shell on one of the wrecks.
Took it home to make it into a lamp - extracted warhead
and was left with case still full of powder
Dumped that then thinking what the hell hit primer with
a hammer
Left power burns all over wall........

It was most likely a 20 MM anti-aircraft fixed case and projectile. I am guessing he was drilling the case to pour the powder out. Dumb!

I am guessing he was drilling the case to pour the powder out. Note to self. If the cartridge is too large to fit into a kinetic puller, and they go up to 25mm
50 BMG Bullet Puller, collets available 4mm-25mmr
Then I don't need to take it apart that badly.

Thanks Free ThinkerNY.
John Grimm III was in his garage working on a project involving two artillery shells, possibly making a lamp.

Can you really call 20mm artillery? I mean, doesn’t have to be like at least a 1 inch shell before you can use the word artillery?

>> possibly making a lamp.
It appears that he may have been successful in his lamp-making, if only for a few milliseconds.

What kind of pea shooter artillery uses a 20mm shell?
From a school tour of the FBI that I did in ~1970, a bunch of gangsters acquired a 20mm anti-tank gun to use against armored cars in the 1930s. They were caught before they could use it.
