Ben Davidson, a towering pass rusher who wore a handlebar mustache and terrorized Raiders opponents in the 1960s and early '70s, died Monday night of prostate cancer. He was 72.

Man the persistence of that legend is astonishing. All Ben Davidson did was knock his helmet off. Namath's cheekbone was broken on subsequent play by defensive end Ike Lassiter and Davidson got the blame.
Documented.
Lassiter was a prety tough guy in his own right.

I used to enjoy watching that team. Lamonica with his sixty yard bombs every other play. They were pretty exciting--for the AFL.

I remember watching . . . that was real, bare-knuckle, smash-mouth fooball.
An aside: My dad played on a team with George Blanda as QB and Bear Bryant as Coach!
The dinner time stories . . . better than Facenda and the old NFL Films and Follies, now that roster is a true blast from the past!

I used to enjoy watching that team. Lamonica with his sixty yard bombs every other play. They were pretty excitingYes, football (and horse racing) seemed to be a lot more exciting and fun back then. Remember San Diego's Dan Fouts's long passes to John Jefferson? One time Oakland Raider, former Boston Patriots, Jim Plunkett (Ken Stabler's replacement at Oakland) threw a few long bombs, too.
