There are good reasons to go to war and bad reasons to go to war. The south may have had a right to secede but it was for a wrong, immoral reason. In either way it’s a joke to think either side would have gotten along peacefully after this. Further the plantation system was dying in the face of industrialization and would have petered out and then what would have been the point of expensive to maintain slaves?

In the mid-1950s, when he passed, he was pushing 110.
If memory serves me, I believe he was wounded at the Battle of Helena.

They seem to share some DNA. Even the stage names fit the template.

You forgot one other thing that would have kept going if the South had won.

If the plantation system would have ended on its own, it should have been allowed to do so.

Civil War will invite invasion from China/Russia/clients during the confusion leading up to the transfer of power.

Do you write comedy? LOL

I once did find a store in, believe it or not, northern New Jersey that carried Rebel Yell. But other than that I think you have to cross the Ohio River and keep heading south. The best tasting Bourbon I’ve ever found.

We could discuss the attrocities of war committed on both sides of the Civil War until Doomsday. The fact is that the majority of Confederate soldiers had never and had no wish to own slaves.

Liberal jackals hide behind the same false exploitation of class and race as they did back then to hide their true agenda which might not be so acceptable to the public.

The “downtrodden minorities” chosen to be the front for the hidden agendas always suffer the most in the end. Today, the minorities have changed but the tactic is the same. If the North had well and truly won the Civil war there would be no more Confederate rebels. Their generations continue even now. Their cause today is no more the right to own slaves than it was then. Their bloodlines and ancestry won’t allow them to bow to a tyrannical, Socialist government without a fight in today’s world any more than then.

The CSA’s own Declaration of Independence (available at http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/csa_scarsec.asp) goes on for the first few paragraphs regarding States rights but devolves in the last paragraphs in to a complaint that abolitionists in the North have assisted in runaway slaves and are now working to take their “property.”

Nice try. Try one built on the labor of an enslaved populous among the elite and common folk then went along with them.

You can put the same statement to the South.

They knew it was going to have to end as well, the economics of it was kicking their ass, they just didn’t want to end it and blamed the North for their economic troubles because they were industrializing and the South wasn’t. Because even multiple human workers weren’t as efficient as machinery that didn’t get tired or sick or old or pregnant or escape. They also didn’t want to lose their capital investments either, by freeing them and making them equal people.

Yes, this has been hashed and rehashed. It’s like a spitting contest - “Well you did this - well so did you and you also did that” and so on.

I was raised in the Great Smoky Mountains where I was told that ‘yell’n from ridge to ridge or holler to holler was a form of communication both to let folks know you were in the area and to keep from getting shot. When the Northern Aggression came and the Mountain boys signed up to fight, hollering at the top of one’s voice just came naturally when they charged a Union line or position.

Anyone who whines about slavery in a CW topic deserves to be ignored.
