I guess Mark is mad that Romney is not a puritanical Reaganite.

Instead he created a whole new federal department (Veterans Affairs) and grew the federal workforce by 200,000.

I have no comment on your basic argument, but point out that the Veterans Administration which had existed since the 1930's was upgraded to cabinet level and renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs on March 15, 1989. That was under the administration of President George H. W. Bush.

Reagan was NEVER pro-abortion.
Good lord.
Romney IS pro-abortion and has never changed that position.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Act of 1988 (Public Law 100-527) was signed into law by President Reagan on 25 October 1988.

And would you like to comment on the democrat party.

Poor democrat behavior doesn't negate poor republican behavior. It takes zero courage to confront democrat problems.

I had to leave last night, so I never really edited my last post.

Ronald Reagan appointed Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court.

Barry Goldwater and Justice William Rehnquist recommended her. Before being on the supreme she sided with the conservatives side the most and it wasn't until her later years in the SC that she went liberal. Reagan interviewed and spoke with her personally and I'm sure she promised him things, she later took back. Reagan probably thought he had someone the left would except, who would keep her word.

The difference was, romney appointed democrats who were outspoken gay activist and for abortion. Someone did not deceive him. He knew what he was getting. He was so hypocritical about how he did it, just like today. He “says” he's appointing Conservatives, but appoints 2 homosexual activist, then tells everyone he's against gay marriage. He knew exactly what he was doing.

In his Justice Dept, HE appointed the Chief Legal Counsel who unconstitutionally implemented gay marriage WITHOUT going through the legislation. He did not have to sign gay marriage like he said. He could have said NO, you have to do it the right way, but he knew it would not pass. Because of that, Catholic hospitals were forced to give the morning after abortion pills or close shop. He also forced the Catholic Church to either let gays adopt or stop providing adoption services in MA. They stopped after 109 years.

To the victor..... Romney won, we lost. But Romney is doing what a leader must do, he is exerting and consolidating power. I’m way to the right of Romney but my father taught me a long time ago that my tantrums would be met by a crisp whack if I acted out after losing. Play harder next time was the lesson. At 60 I still follow that admonition. Or I duck when I don’t. Reflexive.

Romney and the gop cheated. You want proof, I'll be glad to post it, but I bet you all have already seen it and don't care if your politician cheats, just like obama fans don't care what he does. This is one of the many reasons our country is so screwed up; no one cares what they do as long as our side wins. It is not a football game; it's our children's future. I must have read 1000 times on FR, accept romney, we can hold his feet to the fire. NO ONE cares what he does, it was all lies.

svcw. Thank you, I'm happy to admit I was wrong and you are right. I had always heard he was pro-abortion from fellow freepers and accepted it. I usually check my sources, but.....glad to hear Reagan always defended innocent babies. When you don't have the house and/or the senate, I don't know how he was able to do anything. Here's an interesting read on Reagan and abortion. Thanks again.

1979, the year that Mitt left the GOP.

So fot FIFTEEN YEARS until 1994 when he ran as a Republican against Teddy, Willard was an “Independant” ???

What happened the magical year of 1979 to cause him to do that ???

Personally I thought he never was Republican until 1994 but apparantly he was..

Brilliant, my friend. Thanks for the heads up.

Thak you dear. I’m finally settling on the opinion that we make it to Nov6. On Nov7 we begin the process of either discarding the GOP for a party that we can be WANTED in, or (a less likely possibility) take back the GOP.

I must have read 1000 times on FR, accept romney, we can hold his feet to the fire.

No, we can never hold his feet to the fire. The Rove/Ginsberg wing of the liberal RINO establishment have very clearly made it impossible for Conservatives and especially Tea Party people to have any meaningful say any more.

So let us call it what it truly is.

Let us elect Romney because he is a liberal, progressive Republican instead of a rules-breaking, dictatorial communist like Obama.

But let us not be fooled. He will not govern nearly as to-the-right as G.W. Bush, and W wasn't all that conservative.

At that point, we then need to set up a real conservative party that will actually welcome us, the grass roots. I have coined the name Capitalist Freedom party.

Starting a viable third party would ensure that every election is won by a plurality.

Not being able to claim a majority would take any “mandate” away from the winner, reducing the power of government, which is something we desperately need to do to restore our (God’s) country.

I believe that you’re right about our not being able to restore the GOP to Conservatism. It has been taken over by ruthless thugs who want the leftists to win at any cost, their own, such as Romney, or the other party’s, they do not care.

Capitalist Freedom party

No offense but, I don't think so. I'm waiting and praying for a miracle to stop romney. If romney wins, maybe it's another punishment from God. We sure deserve it. He will call us all to account for the murder of 50 million babies, the perversion pushed on our kids, the growing arrogance against the God who created us, blesses us and is merciful to us, even now. That will end one day.

Also, bear in mind that any party we started, should it become meaningful, would be immediately targeted by the Global Left who have co-opted the Republicans. The targeting would be for either destruction or co-opting. These are very serious men, and they do not intend to lose.

I'd probably end up dead, for example. Not that it would bother me in the slightest. What a wonderful reason to be taken home to the Lord!

as usual...a big chunk of freepers moderate right on cue

just mesmerized by flash and a decent speech

you have seen it all before

aside from Ryan and a few morsels of sanity it feels like we are nominating Jerry Ford.

just a parade of moderates who really despise folks like us ..but they have to have us so they throw us bones

but we don’t have to like it or not point out the absurdity of a GOP convention ignoring social issues
