A dog, confined within his own yard, was shot and killed by an Eldorado, Ill. police officer who had mistakenly arrived to the wrong house to investigate a report of a stolen ladder.
According to Wednesday's publication of WSIL TV, the shooting took place on Sunday evening, when an officer arrived to the home of Jason Robershaw.
Robershaw claims that he heard a knock at his back door, followed by gun shots.
Those shots took the life of his 6-year-old German shepherd, "Smokey."
The grieving owner describes the horrific scene outside of his back door:

Shoot my dog under these circumstances,and a State of War would exist between me and the police.
So the Officer, fearing for his life, had to shoot a chained dog? And at the wrong house to boot!
He shouldn’t be on the Police Force!
While I love dogs and have owned several and still mourn their NATURAL death, I think the truly serious problem is WHY ARE THE POLICE SO OFTEN GOING TO THE WRONG ADDRESS.
Because they just don’t care. To them, all “civilians” are criminals or almost criminals and don’t deserve rights, much less respect. They put the “blue line” stickers on their cars for a reason—as a warning to their brother cops that they are “good people” and not mere civilians to be threatened, distrusted, and harassed.
One of these days they’re going to find one of these dog shooters with a hole in his head and a dog biscuit in his mouth.
This man should never be allowed to own a gun again if he’s so afraid of a chained dog - which homeowners have for protection from criminals. The puke is now a criminal, in my eyes.
And all over a LADDER - even if it WERE the right house, totally unjustified.
Actually, it’s amazing it was a lone officer and not a S.W.A.T. team. After all, going up against a ladder thief is dangerous business.
Just disgusting - and this trend is alarming. I hope we hear what happens, if anything, to this ‘officer.’
I know what the rational answer should be, but emotion and instantaneous pure hatred would probably get the better of me in that situation.
Otherwise it's a constitutionally impermissible search.
I"ve done more than my fair share of address lookups for cop friends over the years since my job didn't come into conflict with the 4th.
Given that we don’t so much as have the officer’s name, that is unlikely.
Journalists who refuse to publish the names of police officers who commit crimes aid the commission of future crimes.

Because they are being dumbed-down like the rest of the zombies who don’t think for themselves.
Thank you for admitting your assistance to police officers, enabling them to skirt around constitutional protections.
In the heat of an honest nighttime conflict, with someone shooting in my back yard, destroying what is mine, for absolutly no justifiable reason.......I can see it happening.
Most of the time I see local cops generating revenue by setting up speed traps, or filling out police reports for thefts, burglaries, etc. that are nothing more than the required fodder to submit and insurance claim.
You see more about shot dogs, high-speed chases of teenagers, mistaken address no-knock warrant entries, or arresting someone after a homefront confrontation with a neighbor than you see of a policeman actually preventing/stopping a real crime mid-stream.
When the sh!t hits the fan, don't count on the police. In fact, best advice is to stay away from them.. One only need to look back at the immediate after action by police there to see that Constitutionally guaranteed rights get violated.

Yet, none of my cop friends ever shot anyone’s dog or went to the wrong house.
I am tired of this crap. Apparently we live in a police state, where mistakes are free from civil prosecution.
Yet, by your own admission, you *did* help them skirt around Constitutional protections, enabling the current mentality of officers who blatantly violating the Constitution.
And I doubt any of your cop friends would have admitted doing so to you, seeing as they were already willing to get around Constitutional protections in the first place, and any admission that they shot the chihuahua belonging to the family living at the wrong house would have made you a less cooperative agent.
